We’re Hiring: Part-Time or Full-Time Ecologist

Wendling Beck is a pioneering nature restoration and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) project in Norfolk, spanning over 2,000 hectares. Bringing together landowners, academics, eNGOs, infrastructure partners, and local authorities, we’re creating a blueprint for large-scale landscape recovery and biodiversity uplift.

We’re now looking for an experienced Ecologist to join our team Part Time 2-3 day per week or Full Time.

In this hands-on role, you’ll:

- Lead and coordinate habitat condition monitoring across diverse habitats.
- Support adaptive management and refinement of our Habitat Monitoring and Management Plan (HMMP).
- Ensure robust ecological reporting and data management.
- Collaborate closely with our land managers, partners, and local stakeholders to achieve shared ecological goals.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to one of the UK’s most ambitious restoration and BNG projects - working flexibly, learning alongside a passionate, multidisciplinary team, and seeing the real-world impact of your work.

Location: Wendling Beck, Norfolk (mix of fieldwork and flexible remote working)
Contract: Permanent Full Time or Part-Time, 2–3 days per week
Salary: Pro rata equivalent to £40,000 FTE (dependent on experience)

If you’re an ecologist with strong UKHab and BNG experience, and you’re excited by the idea of working on a project at the forefront of nature recovery. We’d love to hear from you.

Please email for an in depth job description.
📩 Apply with your CV and a short covering statement. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the role is filled.

Norfolk County Council is hosting a drop-in session for the community to hear about the work being carried out along the Wendling Way and at the Gressenhall Museum site, to improve access to nature. The Gressenhall Access to Nature Project creates accessible nature experiences for people living with dementia and their carers. The Wendling Way is a trail linking the Gressenhall Environment Hub to Dereham town centre to provide a safe and direct route for visitors who are walking, wheeling or cycling. The project will include approximately 1.2km of route surfacing improvements. These work aims to benefit the local community and visitors to the area and our team will be available throughout the day if you would like to ask any questions.

We hope you will be able to join us for this event on Wednesday 26 October 2022 between 10:30am–4:30pm at The Cart Shed at The White Swan, The Green, Gressenhall, NR20 4DU
