Langmere Lamb

Langmere Lamb Hello and welcome to our Langmere Lamb page. This page is dedicated to our flock of sheep a We have one Meatlinc tup and two Lleyn tups.

Our flock currently consists of 120 breeding ewes, three tups and 40 ewe lambs. Our ladies are a mix of Charollais, Lleyn and Meatlinc crosses (some pure lleyns). We live and work on the family farm and have built up the sheep enterprise to work alongside the arable side of the farm

We have been introducing more regenerative farming methods over the years and our ewes and lambs grow off grass in

the main, only supplementing them with additional food as required during pregnancy and early lactation for example.

On Friday we gave the lambs their first vaccination.

A couple of ewes got sheared as they had some flystrike ( you may be relieved that I forgot to take photosπŸ˜…) nothing too bad but as we had them in it was easier to just shear the whole fleece.

We're just waiting to get to the top of our shearers list to get everyone done. What takes our shearer one morning would take us about a week, so it's worth the wait for us.

Thank you so much to everyone who came and visited us on Sunday!

We have raised Β£360 for the Lincs and Notts Air Amulance.

We couldn't have done it without all the help from our amazing friends and family before, during and after the day too.

If anyone who visited would be generous enough to fill out a feedback form that would be amazing. I have made a very short one.... (Fingers crossed it works)

The Open Farm Sunday organisers also have one which they share with us if you name our farm (The Grange, DN40)

So thank you all for making it such a good day, I'm not promising well do it again next year, but we will do it again!

Bit of a gross post, so scroll on if your eating your tea πŸ˜…....

Today we noticed a ewe had a bit of flystrike, so we caught, sheared the affected area and treated her. It's scary how much is hidden under the fleece. This is why it can get out of hand so quickly, and we act as soon as we suspect it, even if it looks like a small amount!

Also over the weekend I tested the lambs p**p for worm eggs and happily they had very few, so no need to treat them yet! It's always a struggle finding fresh lamb p**p as it's so small!

Someone's not impressed that they're not getting the next strip of grass until tomorrow morning!

The ewes and lambs have been moving to fresh grass every third day, however this is the last strip in this field so it's the long walk back towards the yard soon, ready for the lambs first vaccination.

Also a hare and I startled each other the other day as it hopped round the corner and I managed to get a photo as we stared at each other (me in amazement and awe, it probably in confusion).

On Monday the ewes and lambs had a big walk to find fresh grass.

This field hasn't had sheep on it for quite a few years. Ed's extended the water supply so we can plumb in the water trough in several places down the field. I think they will be here for a little over a week, moving to a fresh strip of grass every 2 - 3 days.

Then back closer to the yard ready for the lambs first vaccination injection.

All the ewes and lambs came in on Monday so the ewes could be dagged (shearing the wool from around their bottoms).

I'm much happier with the lambs this year compared to last year. Fingers crossed I can keep up the good start we've had πŸ€žπŸΌπŸ™πŸΌπŸ€žπŸΌ

Photo from a couple of weeks ago when the sheep were very unimpressed about being moved out of their field for 30 minutes only to be returned to the same field πŸ˜‚πŸ€£.
