🇫🇷 Scotland is heading to SIAL Paris!

From 17–21 October, we will be at one of the world’s leading food and drink trade shows, championing Scotch Beef, Scotch Lamb and Prime Scottish Pork to an international audience.

SIAL provides an important opportunity to showcase the quality, provenance and assurance behind Scotland’s red meat brands, while connecting with buyers, exporters, processors, wholesalers and industry partners from across global markets. 🌍🥩

Across the show, our team will be showcasing Scottish red meat to international buyers and stakeholders.

We’ll be sharing more from Paris throughout the event.

🌱 Scottish Climate Week: looking across Scotland’s farms

Over the past week, we’ve been hearing directly from some of the Scottish farms taking part in the Environmental Baselining Pilot hearing why they got involved, what they hope to learn and why having a clearer picture of their farm’s environmental performance matters.

The project is bringing together farm-level data on areas including soil carbon, greenhouse gas emissions, carbon stocks, water run-off and wider environmental indicators helping build a more detailed picture of the environmental contribution of Scottish agriculture.

📍 35 farms across Scotland are involved in the wider pilot, including 22 beef, lamb and pork farms, representing different farming systems, soils and landscapes.

This work is about establishing a robust baseline understanding where farms are today so that the industry can better understand what is working, identify opportunities and track change over time.

📢 Bluetongue update for Scottish farmers

The Scottish Government has published an updated position on bluetongue, including changes to the Restricted Zone and livestock movement rules.

From 3 October, the Restricted Zone will cover all of Scotland.

Farmers are encouraged to check the latest guidance, including current movement requirements, vaccination information and what to do if bluetongue is suspected.

What can farmers learn by taking a closer look at their farm’s environmental performance?

One of the Environmental Baselining Pilot farms shares why they chose to take part, what the process has involved and what they hope it will help them understand as they look to the future.

The Scottish Baselining Project is about creating a clearer picture of where farms are now, helping farmers identify opportunities and make informed decisions for the years ahead.

It was also a pleasure for the Climate and Nature Industry Leadership Group to visit the farm and have a brilliant discussion with Alison and John about the opportunities and challenges facing Scottish agriculture.

The family’s story helps bring to life the care, commitment and attention to detail that goes into producing quality-assured Scottish red meat.

From the livestock and the environment to the people behind every farm, the campaign focuses on the details that set the standard and the work that goes into getting quality from farm to fork.

🌱 What does a more sustainable future look like for Scottish agriculture?

As part of Scottish Climate Week, we’re shining a light on the Environmental Baselining Pilot a collaborative project helping farms, across the UK, understand their current environmental performance and identify opportunities for improvement.

In this first video, Bruce McConachie Head of Industry Development at QMS introduces the project and explains why understanding where we are today is an important first step in shaping the future.

Over the coming days, we’ll hear directly from some of the Scottish farms taking part, as they share why they got involved and what they hope to learn from the process.

We’re delighted to welcome the Shore Hotel in Balintore to the Scotch Beef Club, proudly flying the flag for Ross-shire in the Highlands. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The hotel’s Scotch Beef comes directly from the family-owned Fearn Farm, where owners John and Fiona Scott are passionate about a true farm-to-fork approach. 🌱🐄

The journey continues through the local supply chain, with butchery carried out by Jock Gibson at Macbeth's in Forres and processing by Munro of Dingwall.

For the team at the Shore Hotel, supporting local businesses and making the most of the incredible produce on their doorstep is a key part of what they do. 🤝
