Now with a dedicated team of helpers supply 2200 baskets of produce every week direct to our customer / supporters. All our deliveries are within a 30 mile radius of the 100 acre farm. We also supply other box schemes, shops and have our award winning stall at the Edinburgh Farmers' Market. The Biodynamic Farm grows 200 different varieties of vegetables and fruit. We also grow cereals for our hens

and have planted a 1500 tree orchard. We have rare breed goats, sheep, cows, pigs and have created a nature pond. We have errected 4000m sq polytunnels for early and warmer climate crops. Our aim has always been to show that you can grow fresh produce in a Scottish climate without the harmful chemicals.

What is this weird looking vegetable?
You won’t find it in any supermarkets!
You will find it at Edinburgh Farmers Market today on Castle Terrace. You can also order from: www.eastcoastorganics.co.uk
But what is this amazing Squash that we specialise in and grow organically?
Tromboncino is a unique Italian heirloom squash that grows on climbing vines, so makes great use of space in polytunnels. With its curved neck and bulbous end it resembles a small trombone, which is from where it got its name! It can be eaten fresh as a summer squash or left to mature in to dense winter squash.

Great to have all that rain this week and everything outside is looking lush again. I had planned to show a photo of our new helper, a farmer from Gaza, Mohammed. He is always smiling and a refugee over here while his child gets medical treatment. Though thought it better not to after seeing the racist hooliganism in Glasgow last weekend, with the mob throwing bottles and doing n**i salutes while shouting send them home. Glad to see Police Scotland saying they will be making loads of arrests.

The sheep are enjoying the new green manure pasture and the woodland for shade. The grass mixture has various varieties, clovers and chicory and is part of our organic rotation. There seems to be lots of buzz words around, like rewilding and regenerative agriculture. Only certified organic systems are regulated and inspected and don’t use harmful pesticides or artificial fertilisers. Some regenerative systems just promote less chemical fertilisers and min tillage systems can involve using even more glyphosate w**d killer.

Superb warm sunny weather, with plenty rain, so crops will really take off now. Our chard and fennel are looking immaculate after being hoed by our cracking team of growers! Big thanks to all the wonderful people that support us and our Israel apartheid free zone. It’s great to see McLeod Organics have also joined AFZ. This week the United Nations confirmed Israel was committing genocide and was also deliberately targeting and killing babies and children. Meanwhile in the UK, the folk that try and destroy the baby killing drones at Elbit systems get 4-8 years in prison as terrorists!

HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!

Hannah driving our new Solis tractor with Pirko steering the inter-rotovator between the rows of kale. Later the beds will be front hoed, ridging up the fine soil to almost bury the kale and hopefully covering the smaller w**ds. Support Scottish sustainable farming by coming to the organic stall at Edinburgh Farmers Market today Saturday, Castle Terrace. 9-2pm.
