On Thursday the 11th of June from 18:00 onwards, we are very excited to be joined by Robin Sherriff from .sauce who makes miso from Scottish ingredients! There will be some miso for tasting and he will also share a bit more about how they make their delicious ‘slow sauces’. Robin was recently interviewed on the BBC Food Programme and it is definitely worth a listen! Tickets are free, but spaces are very limited. 🥄👨‍🍳

We tried a Carlin Pea Saag with Mango Chutney-Glazed Halloumi last night and it was delicious! As usual, all ingredients available in Root Down.

A year ago today, we nervously opened the doors for the first time after taking over Root Down from Robbie. And so it began…

Nearly 100 boxes of apples, more than a tonne of tatties, thousands of samosas, and 35,000 sales later, we’ve made it through our first year.

Having never run a shop before, it’s been a real education - but more than that, a privilege and an absolute joy, thanks to the incredible support of this community.

A huge thank you to all our suppliers, and to everyone who has walked through our doors this past year. Please keep coming - it’s what keeps shops like ours alive.

We’ll have a few treats on the counter this week, and maybe even an extra stamp on your loyalty card. And if you’ve not visited yet, we’d love to meet you.

Happy Monday Porty. We are open as usual today and tomorrow, but we are closing Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday to make time for some important birthday celebrations. We will be back next Monday on the 6th with plenty of fresh fruit, veg, and everything else you could possibly need. 🎊🎉🎊
