Venison bingo. Be honest.

Count up how many of these you've done and put your score in the comments. Everyone starts on 1, we've been generous.

Full house gets nothing. Just our respect, and possibly a quiet word about the recipe you're hiding.

One pack of venison and an evening to yourself.

1/ Steak. Hot pan, three minutes a side.
2/ Burgers on the grill, no fuss.
3/ Chilli, left to sit and get better.
4/ A slow stew, red w**e, all afternoon.

Comment the number. We will not judge you for picking 4 in August, but we will notice. 😀

Saturday. The grill is on and nobody is doing anything useful. Let's settle a few things.

Two of these are true. One of them is not.

1. Venison is a winter meat.
2. Venison is leaner than beef.
3. A stag grows a whole new set of antlers every single year.

Have a guess before you scroll on. Answers going up in the comments later.

No prize. Just the satisfaction.

August: a changing point in the deer calendar

August might feel like the height of summer, but out in the countryside, the deer calendar is already beginning to shift.

The roe rut is still underway, with bucks more active as they pursue does and defend their territory. Meanwhile, red, fallow and sika deer are moving towards their own busy autumn period, when behaviour, movement and activity begin to change dramatically.

It makes August a fascinating crossover month. One part of the annual cycle is reaching its peak, while another is just beginning.

These natural rhythms are also an important part of responsible deer management, helping inform how populations are monitored and managed throughout the year.

Summer may still be here, but for Britain’s deer, the next chapter of the year is already beginning. 🌿🦌 fans

This Friday is the last BBQ box delivery of the summer.

One order still covers the whole afternoon: 10 quarter pounder smash burger patties, 6 flash fry steaks, 6 sticky bourbon kebabs and 6 spiced koftas. 28 pieces of wild Scottish venison for £49.95, landing fresh on Friday the 7th, ready for the weekend.

Venison holds its own over charcoal. Leaner than beef, quicker to cook, and enough flavour that you can keep the seasoning simple.

After this one the BBQ box goes away until next summer, so if it's been on your list, this is the week. Orders close midnight tomorrow.

New here? TRYWILD15 takes 15% off your first order.

Order before midnight Tuesday:
