Another one of our lovely girls who has a very special name. She was born on my grandad’s birthday, so she was named after him🎂 Grandad was the first generation on the tenancy at this farm, making her name a little nod to the person who started it all 🏡

🏅Richard was on my shortlist of cows to choose from for this year’s show team thanks to her fantastic body depth, angularity and strong udder. As well as looking the part, she has the sweetest nature, always calm, gentle and the sort of cow who quietly blends into the herd without causing any fuss ☺️

👴🏼👨🏼With Father’s Day just around the corner, she’s a lovely reminder of the generations that have shaped this farm and the people whose legacy lives on in little ways every day

Buttergold has been beating the heat this week by basking in the sprinklers before milking. Some girls aren’t a fan but she’ll happily stand there cooling down while soaking up some chilled misty water 💧

🥵 Keeping dairy cows cool is really important because cows struggle with heat more than people do. When temperatures get too high they can become heat stressed which affects their health and comfort.

Our one-of-a-kind red and white Holstein with a mysterious black patch on her shoulder. Most red Holsteins are completely red and white, which makes Dorothy extra special. Her striking black marking may be the result of a rare genetic quirk called mosaicism, where one tiny area of the body expresses pigment differently from the rest✨

She’s gentle, curious and fully aware that her shoulder patch makes her unforgettable. Whether she’s grazing in the pasture or escaping up the parlour steps, Dorothy always stands out from the herd 🧐

Although there’s absolutely nothing sincere about her behaviour in the parlour 😅

✅ Most cows come into the milking parlour, eat their snacks politely, are milked, and leave
Not Sincere

Her routine goes something like this:
Step 1: Eat approximately three mouthfuls of her parlour nuts.
Step 2: Completely ignore the rest.
Step 3: Turn around like a naughty child in a cinema seat and start sucking the shoulder of the cow behind her 🤨

For the non-farmers reading this
yes, it’s weird
and no, we don’t fully understand it either

The poor cow behind her is probably wondering why she’s become a part of Sincere’s emotional support programme

Then, the SECOND the parlour gates open, she suddenly remembers she’s hungry again and proceeds to inhale the rest of her nuts like someone doing last orders at the bar🤦‍♂️

Unfortunately, all this shoulder-sucking means she swallows loads of air and ends up inflated like a furry balloon 🎈 so every milking ends the same way…
One enormous earth-shaking burp to deflate herself before waddling off looking very pleased with her life choices. 🐄💨
