Heritage Cellars

Heritage Cellars “We’re always happy to talk about wine......”

Hermitage Cellars was originally set up at the Brookfield Hotel in Emsworth for hotel customers to buy wines that they had enjoyed in the restaurant to take home with them. Now independent of the Brookfield, Hermitage Cellars is still owned and run by Alistair and Becky Gibson, and continues to supply wines to local hotels, pubs and restaurants as well as customers in the Emsworth area. We hope yo

u enjoy looking through our list and always welcome any vinious suggestions or queries that you may have. All the wines listed have been carefully chosen and are only included after rigorous tastings .... a tough job but someone has to do it! If you find any wines of interest and would like to buy some, then please give us a call - we would be delighted to help.

If you still have any doubts about the potential of English sparkling wine then taste this amazing wine - Sugrue South Downs Ex Machina Rose is one of the best Sparkling Rose Ive tasted from anywhere including Champagne. In the words of one critic this is quite “magical”. The nose offers red fruits - wild strawberries, cranberries - and almost a hint of Christmas with tangerine peel and mixed spices. The palate is beautifully poised with bright acidity, more red fruits and spices and an almost creamy mouth filling finish. Make sure this brilliant fizz is on your Christmas shopping list.

What do you drink when you’ve been a Cape Wine 2025 Day 2 all day. Just love this wine Sondagskloof 2024.
100% Sauvignon Blanc - 50% of which had some skin contact & was racked after fermentation in new French oak. So much going on here - salinity, pink grapefruit, fennel, blackcurrant leaf and lime, a broad textured palate & long complex finish. Sauvignon Blanc but maybe not as you know it - and as for the label well it should be on the wall 😊

So wonderful to be back in Cape Town especially for Cape Wine 2025. A place where the mountains meet the sea, the vineyards offer so much variety & the people welcome you back with such generosity. What a very special place indeed ♥️

“All that glitters”……..well in this case .london it really does, expectations met and then some. Saying it’s the best babaghanoush I’ve ever tasted doesn’t really do it justice - a bit like telling an old school Michelin star chef he makes the best porridge you’ve ever tasted - but that along with the amazing salt cod xo labneh was a brilliant entry into the world that is Oma. And on it went Cornish Sea Bass Crudo, Squid, Spanakopita, Chilli Butter Scallop and lastly a strawberry dessert that was just next level. The wine list is lovingly put together - wines “influenced by the sea”, “surrounded by the sea” and “further inland” are the headlines and to its great credit it’s literally not all Greek. The front of house team totally over deliver, even more so in that the whole restaurant seems to be teetering on the edge of organised chaos which just adds to the whole experience. Go here while you can, Oma is a rare example of a restaurant at the top of its game that really does deliver gold.

In 1972 the Gibson family started an amazing adventure & opened a small hotel in Emsworth - The Brookfield Hotel. The initial 5 bedrooms & a bathroom at the end of the corridor several decades later turned into 41 bedrooms and facilities for over 130 guests at weddings & events. Numerous National Awards and recognition followed and the Brookfield also became the inspiration for the famous Emsworth Food Festival. The Gibsons sold the hotel in 2006 and following a further sale it changed its name and become a pub with rooms.

This week is a year since we opened the Isle of Wight ‘Brookfield’ - our beautiful little holiday retreat and what a success it’s been. Set in a picturesque rural setting close to the famous West Wight beaches, the Needles and Newtown Nature Reserve we are so delighted to have shared this little bit of tranquility with so many guests, who have clearly loved it as much as we do. In the top 1% and a ‘Superhost’ on Airbnb but you can also book direct - come and see for yourself.

The adventure continues 😊

Wines from southern Italy 🇮🇹 in the sun filled court yard of - new vintages to try from & . Like the sun the wines shone, new vintages all looking good. On the day I particularly liked - Fabrizio Vella Bianco - brilliant value - Alice Verdeca - truly a wine to drink by the sea - Bianco Maggiore - we’ve listed this for years & it never disappoints - Fabrizio Vella Rosso - perfect pizza red & again outstanding value. Thanks to Fat Olives for a wonderful lunch and for for organising. Viva Italia 🇮🇹
