What a difference a few years makes… 🍇

In 2017, we harvested our chardonnay on the 4th November.

This year we started on the 2nd September.

More than two months earlier.

On Wednesday, the first grapes of our 2026 vintage were picked here at All Angels, marking the start of this year’s harvest.

A striking reminder of just how much our growing seasons can change — and why no two vintages are ever quite the same.

We’re heading back to the Newbury Show! 🥂🍇

And this year, we’ll be bringing along the latest additions to the All Angels family…

If you haven’t had a chance to try our newest releases yet, come and find us for a taste, a chat and a glass (or two) of English Sparkling Wine.

We loved being part of the show last year and can’t wait to be back on home turf, pouring for familiar faces and meeting plenty of new ones too.

So, is 2026 going to be a good year for grapes? 🍇

All signs are pointing to quality over quantity.

The high levels of sunshine and solar radiation we’ve seen this year are leading to quicker ripening. The grapes may be smaller and yields potentially lower, but that smaller fruit can bring beautifully concentrated flavours.

Less in the bunch, perhaps. More in the grape. And the potential for quality? Off the charts.

There’s still a little way to go before harvest, and as ever, nature gets the final say — but we’re very excited to see what this vintage becomes. 🥂

There’s never been a more exciting time for English sparkling wine. 🥂

As Oz Clarke and Tom Surgey explain so brilliantly, it comes down to what’s beneath our feet — and what’s happening above them.

Across the south of England, we share the same chalky soils found in Champagne. And as our climate has changed, our growing conditions have begun to mirror those the Champagne region experienced around 20 years ago — conditions in which some truly great wines were made.

The right soil. The right temperatures. And increasingly, the right conditions for producing exceptional sparkling wine right here in England. 🇬🇧🍇

Oz and Tom have long been wonderful supporters of English wine, and we feel incredibly honoured that All Angels is among the vineyards and wines they champion.

Thank you both for your continued enthusiasm for what we’re creating here in our little corner of Berkshire. It means a great deal to us.

The future of English sparkling wine is looking very bright indeed. 🥂

One question we get asked a lot: do we have to water the vines?

The answer is no — even in the high, dry heat we’ve experienced this year. ☀️🍇

Established vines are remarkably resilient. Their roots reach deep into the soil in search of the water they need, rather than relying on regular irrigation from above.

In fact, a little stress isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Vines that have to work harder can put more energy into their fruit rather than excessive leafy growth — one of the many reasons vineyards can thrive in conditions that leave the rest of us reaching for the hosepipe.

So while the grass might be looking a little less green, beneath the surface our vines are getting on with the job.

No sprinklers. No irrigation. Just deep roots, healthy vines and nature doing what it does best. 🍇

Everyone has a favourite… which All Angels gets your vote?

Late July in the vineyard meant one thing: it was time to let a little more sunshine in. 🍇

Leaf stripping is an important job in the growing season. By carefully removing leaves from around the developing bunches, we allow more sunlight to reach the grapes — although, given the amount we’ve had this year, sunshine hasn’t exactly been in short supply. ☀️

It also opens up the canopy, improving airflow around the fruit and helping to keep the grapes healthy as they continue to ripen.

As with most things in the vineyard, it’s a balancing act. Enough leaves removed to expose the fruit, but enough left behind to keep the vine doing what it does best.

Another job underway and another step closer to harvest. 🥂

Summer is for English Sparkling Rosé. ☀️🥂

Long lunches that become golden evenings. Beach picnics. Garden gatherings. Bare feet on the grass. Those spontaneous moments that deserve something a little special.

Our Sparkling Rosés are made for exactly that. Delicate in colour, vibrant with red berry fruit and beautifully balanced, a bottle that’s just as at home by the coast as it is around the garden table.

Another wonderful review for our Sparkling Rosé 2019.

We’re delighted that Tamlyn Currin, writing on behalf of Jancis Robinson, has awarded our latest release another outstanding score, describing it as:

“So damn delicious.”

Tamlyn highlights vibrant flavours of red cherries, cranberries, redcurrants and raspberries, balanced by intriguing savoury notes of cumin, caraway, anise and roasted h**p hearts, creating a sparkling rosé that’s both joyful and beautifully complex.

She also praised its lively character, writing:

“It’s a wine with its whole heart out there, ‘Drink me!’ on its sleeve. But it’s also good in a serious, complex way.”

Produced entirely from estate-grown fruit at our vineyard in Enborne, Berkshire, our Sparkling Rosé 2019 is a blend of 55% Pinot Gris, 32% Rondo and 13% Pinot Noir reserve wine, aged for six years on the lees before release.

And if you’re wondering what to enjoy it with, Tamlyn agrees with our recommendation: carpaccio makes the perfect pairing.
