Busy day at Carrifran Wildwood in the Scottish Borders. This project started 25 years ago. Along with 20 or so other volunteers we were removing old plastic vole guards and tree tubes. Difficult terrain but many hands made light work! It made me do some background research on voles and I hadn’t realised that until recently Ireland didn’t have any voles. It does now as the bank vole is spreading northwards. But no need for vole guards when planting trees in Fermanagh…..for now anyway!

Welcome to Fedian! 🌿

We were thrilled to welcome The National Lottery Heritage Fund to our brand-new Fedian Nature Reserve in Fermanagh yesterday – one of the few remaining remnants of species-rich grassland and centuries-old woodland in Northern Ireland.

Thanks to National Lottery players, The Wildlife Trusts’ Ecological Restoration Fund, and gifts in wills from Ulster Wildlife supporters, this precious landscape is now safeguarded for wildlife and will serve as a nature-friendly farming demonstration site, showcasing how agriculture and nature can thrive together.
