Final part of the ram team arrived yesterday…,all the way ( 590 miles to be exact) from Scotland. This one is a Logie. Very excited to see his lambs next spring. A big investment into my maternal rams to hopefully push the flock forward. Many thanks to Logie Durno sheep for organising transport to Devon!

Another quick bluetongue update. I had blood samples taken from three animals that showed signs of the disease. That was 5 weeks ago. Yesterday I got the official confirmation all 3 animals were positive for the virus…5 WEEKS!!!

The monitoring, testing and reporting of the outbreak has been woeful IMHO. To begin with only one lab was involved in the testing and no work was done out of hours or at weekends, they were overwhelmed with thousands of tests outstanding.

The map showing cases is at best two weeks out of date, probably more like a month out of date so farmers looking at it to plan vaccinations etc were making decision’s without the current facts to hand.

My farm is now a red triangle on the map attached, as you can see Devon is pretty much totally covered in red.

A new feature of the map this week is the blue shading…showing the area where blood tests results are pending.

As you can now see large swathes of the UK are affected. Give it another few weeks and I suspect there are going to be many more red triangles popping up everywhere!
