A BIG Thank You to Everybody who came to pick themselves some of our berries.
It really is a great pleasure to have such wonderful people creating a naturally Happy, joyful atmosphere in our fields.
We look forward to seeing you all (and more of your friends๐Ÿ˜… - it seems word keeps spreading๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ) next season, and wish you all happy healthy times In the meanwhile.๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Last chance for gleaning, Field Marshall says it is being missed out on. Ozark Blue, our last variety to ripen, has sweet berrries remaining.
It is in the second field, just across from the picking hut. Longest short row as you enter that field (North Gully).
Saturday (tomorrow) will be our last day of holding open for gleaning. Sunday we will be closed.

Once again, sadly, nature -having given so generously, and 3 weeks early - has now terminated our picking season.
We have to now declare formal, paying picking is now closed, as of Monday night, 8th September 2025.

The bushes are starting to turn colour and prepare for winter. Part of that is to shed what remaining berries they have.
Obviously there may be SOME berries here and there, but it is thin picking, decreasing to vanishing point. So much so that we will skip any offer of jam picking, and instead allow anybody who wishes to come and glean Any remaining berries for whatever purpose, to do so for free.
You may also come up just to enjoy the fields (in hope?) for a few days more. We will announce full closure within the next few days, but the signs are coming down this Tuesday 9th September 2025.
To save disappointment, please share with friends who may still have been hoping to get their annual supply.
Our season thankyou closure message will follow soon... ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Tonight's update is: the situation remains as last night's post. (With the rain, fewer people came today, giving some extension of last night's status๐Ÿ˜

06/09/2025

Update on last newsflash:
People have responded in quantity,
and... the warm weather has accelerated these late ripening berries, many going "over" their best from night to next morning even, so...
-Warning: the berries are rapidly running out. Bulk pickers (as they need easy, quick quantities), may now find the density too low for quick hits.
"Normal" or casual pickers can still enjoy getting berries, but nature's writing is now on the wall...
If there is a rush tomorrow picking will inevitably thin out, and at this late stage -even rain can cause berries to drop off.
Best advice? - come tomorrow if you can!
We will give a further update tomorrow night on the state of play going forwards.
(e.g. AFTER tomorrow night, whilst good berries will still sell normally, jam pickers may be able to do deals with the Field Marshall for (only) separate batches of berries that are clearly past it...[i.e. if your intent is jam, Please pick FOR jam, not taking decent berries others would have wanted].
We will see tomorrow night...
Thanks for your interest.

Note to pickers - Please:
Our plants are have ALL taken 20(!) Years to reach whatever size they are.
Some of them do NOT MAKE NEW BRANCHES. Some of those produce very FEW new off shoots
(Including our rarest varieties, only a hundred each, among those now being picked). It is heartbreaking to see where a person -in eagerness to get at berries - has trampled down a whole branch.
So - Please Respect these gentle plants that are giving their berries to us all. Whenever you find a low branch across your way, or to squeeze between those touching across rows, just LIFT the branch upwards always - Ok?
Thank you๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ˜

If you need to cross a row, there is usually a gap somehere between bushes. Use it, lifting, not trampling๐Ÿ˜

If you want to add to the fun (make sure to call when you get here), you can make it a treasure hunt, with map reading. We will tell you the varieties, they are all in the same field, but one of them is ONLY in that field.
Then look at the field map where all varieties are colour coded. Pay close attention to the directions: There is one (not obvious) best way in to the real Bonanza, with way cleared. After that, there are certain points to look out for, where you can branch for choices. Like a maze... ๐Ÿ˜

NEWS FLASH - Blueberry Bonanza. The Good News : - if you thought the season was over, no decent picking left...THINK AGAI...

NEWS FLASH - Blueberry Bonanza.
The Good News : - if you thought the season was over, no decent picking left...THINK AGAIN๐Ÿ˜
Thanks to the early season, some of our later varieties have come ripe.
We have hundreds of yards of heaving bushes!
See the photos taken in the field THIS evening.
THE BAD NEWS?...: You have to walk for them, they are in the field across the valley.
They are ripe NOW. -HANDFULS of berries in clusters just roll off in your hands, so... they could fall off if we get heavy winds. They are not over ripe either!
You need to seize the chance while it lasts. To give you an idea , you could pick a kilo (2 pound plus) punnet off max two bushes (or 4 if you pick one side only). We have AT LEAST 400 bushes like that, FOUR varieties ready AND accessible (no bramble or willowherb blocks) now.
Another 300 if we can clear those in time.
If you thought you missed out - you haven't...Come and get 'em!
(For the Exmoor Blueberry friend from Barnstaple who came on 2nd of Sept late afternoon, hoping for his Yearly pick in quantity, (and left with only 600 gms) you dont have to wait till till next year; I tried to tell you... I hope you can take the chance!๐Ÿ˜)

For those regulars used to our usual season : bear in mind that the berries ripened THREE WEEKS EARLY this year. Patriot (soft appley flavour) is heaving Duke (cola sweety flavour) ditto and Reka (faint cinnamon flavour) are well ripe, and Bluecrop (wide spread of ripening, lots of berries) is starting. Someone called today, a bilberry/whortleberry lover) lamenting that thete are none left, they ripened so early she missed the season. Just saying...๐Ÿ˜Š

24/07/2025

Introducing another dimension to our updates of berry status, this post is to give you a better sense of the sheer Abundance of berries you will find yourself surrounded by if you come to pick at the moment. Patriot (in the vid) are our smallest plants, and are open and ripe, and now Duke are hanging heavy as well as Rika.
Also, this vid gives you a sense of the Expanse up here, blueberries spread across 2 valleys and 12 acres with beautiful views, you are at the same time immersed in a delightfully rich and diverse plant and wildlife environment. Will you spot a giant dragon fly or one of our lizards or frogs...
Come and get into it!.. you can also leave loaded with scrumptious fresh blueberries!

This year blueberries are still ยฃ12 per kilo. Pure organic goodness! Cash is still preferred if possible but don't worry...
