🐷 OUR FIRST MANGALITZA PORK BOXES ARE HERE! 🐷

We’ve been working closely with our butcher to create two introductory boxes for anyone who would love to experience the wonderful flavour of our very own home grown rare breed pork.

Mangalitzas are a distinctive heritage breed, easily recognised by their thick, curly coats. They are slow-growing pigs, taking around 18 months to mature. This slower growth allows the meat to develop a deeper flavour, tenderness and beautiful marbling. Their pork is naturally rich, beautifully marbled and full of flavour—very different from the pork most of us are used to buying.

We’ll be completely honest: neither of us has ever been a huge lover of pork. But when we tasted Mangalitza pork, it was like eating a completely different kind of meat! The flavour and succulent texture really surprised us, and that’s exactly why we’re so excited for others to try it. The fat is like melting warm butter wrapped in filo pastry again not like any other meat weve tried before.

For our first release, we’ve chosen familiar, traditional cuts. These boxes are perfect for anyone trying Mangalitza pork for the first time and wanting to discover what makes it so special and trust me the meat will do the talking.

🌿 Mangalitza Taster Box – £50

🌿 Mangalitza Farmhouse Box – £100

Both boxes will include a selection of:

🐷 Roasting joint ( either leg or shoulder)
🐷 Mangalitza sausages
🐷 Pork chops (single or double loin)
🐷 Bone-in pork belly slices
🐷 Diced pork
🐷 Pork mince

The larger Farmhouse Box will contain a more generous quantity of these delicious cuts.

This first release is just the beginning! We would really love to hear your feedback once you’ve tried the pork. Going forward, we plan to offer different boxes and introduce a wider variety of cuts for you to enjoy and experiment with.

📅 We are currently aiming for collection or delivery on Wednesday 23 September. Arrangements will be confirmed with everyone nearer the time.

We’re excited to announce that our very first Shielknowes Farm Mangalitza pork boxes will be available very soon🤎

Our pigs have been raised here on our farm, and we’re now getting ready for the next stage.

Because numbers will be very limited, we’re opening our PORK PRE-ORDER / PRIORITY LIST now so anyone interested can register before the pork becomes available.

This pork isnt just your average british pork this meat is sensational the pigs are slowly matured for around 16/18 months this meat is known as the wagyu of the pork world. we sampled some over weekend and i can tell you its delicious the fat melts like butter 😋.

🐷🤎 so we have been on a wee trip yesterday… 🤎🐷

Picked up these 3 beauties Cheese a 7 month old sow and 2 wee pickles 9 weeks old🥰

We already absolutely love the mangalitza breed and hope to breed Cheese next year and 🤞welcome our very own piglets to raise.

Mangalitzas are such a special breed — famous for their incredible curly coats, brilliant characters and exceptional pork.

They are settling in well and guarantee by end of the week they will know the sound of the feed bucket and Robert will be their bestie 😂🐽

We’ll share plenty of updates as they grow and keep you all along for the journey.

THE MEAT BOX AT SHIELKNOWES FARM

After months of planning, painting, organising, paperwork and lots of hard work behind the scenes, our little idea has finally become a reality.

We've created a dedicated space here at the farm for our farm meat boxes — and we honestly can't wait to see where this new venture takes us.

Our aim has always been simple: to produce quality meat from animals reared here on our own farm, knowing exactly where it has come from and giving our customers the opportunity to buy directly from us.

The support we received when we released our very first mutton boxes was amazing, and it gave us the confidence to keep going. ❤️

And now we're getting ready for the next chapter at The Meat Box… 🐷👀

💙 A little bit of relief today… 💙

Just back from the vets after finally collecting our Bluetongue vaccine for the 🐑💉

Still not out the woods yet as vaccine takes around 3 weeks to take effect so praying still the wee flying f***s!! dont get a chance to come near our sheep.

Like every farmer, all we want to do is everything we possibly can to protect our animals ❤️🐑

Our thoughts are still very much with the farms already affected by Bluetongue and those still on waiting lists hopefully thats stocks getting replenished now.

🦆 A BIG welcome to our newest Shielknowes Farm residents! 🦆

We’ve added 24 lovely new ducks to the Shielknowes crew today! 🤎🌿

They’re settling into farm life nicely found the food dish and we’re absolutely delighted to have them. With our little flock growing, we’re hoping it also means lots more lovely fresh duck eggs coming your way! 🥚🦆

There’s always something happening here at our beautiful chaos… and apparently today it was DUCKS! 😂

💙 A little thought for our fellow farmers tonight… 💙

Over the last few days I’ve been watching videos and reading stories from farmers dealing with Bluetongue, and I’m not going to lie — I’ve cried for them.

As farmers ourselves, we know just how much our animals mean to us. They’re not simply numbers in a field. We know their personalities, we notice when one isn’t quite right, and we spend countless hours caring for them our homes even often becoming temporary hospitals or barns and sheds being farmers beds at times.

Watching other farmers going through this and seeing that feeling of helplessness is heartbreaking.

With Bluetongue now in Scotland, it’s an incredibly worrying time for so many of us. We’re currently on a waiting list for vaccines ourselves, and until they become available, all we can do is watch our animals closely and hope.

To every farmer already dealing with this — I have so much admiration for the love, care and attention I know you are giving your animals right now. ❤️

And to everyone else, I’d just ask that we take a moment to think about and support our farmers through what is a very difficult and frightening time.

Behind every animal affected is a farmer who cares.

Thinking of you all and hoping for better days ahead and always available for a chat your not on your own Shielknowes is behind you 💪❤️🐑🐄🤞🤞
