Mee Mee πŸ’•

Just because she's too lovely not to share!

Mee Mee is a homebred ewe we're extremely proud of. Full of breed character, strong frame and impressive fleece, she's developing into exactly the type of sheep we strive to produce at Whiterigg.

What a fantastic start to our 2026 showing season Fife Show yesterday.

Judged by Raymond Irvine of the Highland Flock, we were absolutely delighted to come home with:

πŸ† Reserve Supreme Champion - Whiterigg Nevis
πŸ†1st in a big ram lamb class with Whiterigg Nevis
πŸ† 1st in the Group of 3
πŸ† 1st to 3rd in the Gimmer Class with our show team - Whiterigg Lady Di, Mari & May d'you Look. An incredible achievement to have Raymond’s final shortlist of 6 made up entirely of Whiterigg sheep presented beautifully by Kildimmery Valais Blacknose & Finavon Valais
πŸ† 2nd & 3rd in the even bigger Ewe Lamb Class - Whiterigg Nova & Whiterigg New Star.
πŸ†2nd in Tup class to the eventual Supreme Champion with Whitehall Valais Blacknose Sheep, Dumfries, Scotland Livramento (Tino to us).

A huge congratulations to Alistair & Craig Scott of the Spango Bank Valais Blacknose for taking Overall Supreme Champion and Interbreed Reserve Show Champion with their outstanding Shearling Tup. (Great breeding shining through πŸ˜‰).

Well done to everyone who competed β€” it was fantastic to see such a large turnout, including several new breeders joining the ringside.

Also a massive thank you to Callum Taylor, no.2 son, the newest member of the Valais Blacknose Stirlingshire - Whiterigg Flock (not as easy as you thought!).

A huge congratulations to Emma Hughes for the winning name.

We think it’s a strong name to suit a very promising young tup πŸ’ͺ

Absolutely loving the leg wool on these lambs! πŸ‘πŸ–€

We are breeding relatively small numbers, with a strong focus on careful selection of genetics that consistently deliver correct conformation, a wide horn set, abundant leg wool, and true Swiss type.

Quality over quantity, always.

πŸ‘βœ¨ A little update from the flock – Weaning time βœ¨πŸ‘

One of the important stages in lamb rearing is weaning, when lambs gradually become independent from their mums and move fully onto grass, forage and feed. πŸ’›

This is a natural and necessary part of their development, helping them grow into strong, healthy young sheep.

Weaning is done carefully and at the right time for both ewe and lamb, helping to:

🌟 Encourage lamb growth on forage and grain rather than relying on milk alone
🌟 Support healthy development and independence
🌟 Allow mums’ milk to dry up naturally
🌟 Help ewes recover condition and rest after rearing lambs
🌟 Prevent male lambs from breeding with their mothers as they mature
🌟 Keep the flock healthy and well managed

We always aim to make the process as calm and stress-free as possible, with plenty of care and close observation. πŸ‘πŸ’«

It’s another big milestone for these lovely lambs as they continue to grow!
