Whether you were swimming here in Tyneside or anywhere else in the country, you will undoubtedly remember the absolute dread of the 'verruca bath'.

Positioned strategically between the changing rooms and the poolside, these shallow, tiled troughs were completely unavoidable. Whether you were at Elswick Pool, the City Baths, or Dunston Leisure Centre, you had to awkwardly wade through a freezing, highly chlorinated puddle of murky water before you were allowed anywhere near the deep end.

We were all told it was a necessary hygiene ritual, but stepping into that communal footbath always felt like the worst part of a school swimming trip!

Where did you go for your swimming lessons back in the day, and do you remember having to tip-toe through the footbath?
