Faringdon Farmer's Market is back in the marketplace tomorrow.

The regular Tuesday market expands tomorrow with the addition of the monthly Farmer's Market. Pop down for some local produce including vegetables, oils to bread and cakes and even plants . There's always a treat to be had.

While you're in town why not top-up your shop with a selection of local goodies and refills from our Faringdon shop. We've got fresh organic eggs, local milk and a whole host of organic ingredient so you could get dinner sorted all from within the town centre.

Our organic chopped dates are currently on discount as we have some passed their best before. Our lovely Lucy has been making the most of our offer and using them in all sorts - so we got her to share what she’s been creating.

Are you a budding breadmaker? Fancy trying your hand at sourdough?

We're giving away free sourdough starter at the shop for anyone interested in giving it go. This is founder Katie's sourdough starter that she's used in baking for over a decade and was donated buy a customer, so we're just sharing the sourdough love.

A sourdough starter is a living culture of wild yeast and lactic acid bacteria, kept going in a mixture of flour and water. Instead of adding commercial yeast to a dough, you're relying on the wild yeast and bacteria already present in the flour (and in the air around you) to do the leavening — the same way bread was made for thousands of years before packaged yeast existed.

The bread dough ferments slowly over many hours, sometimes overnight, with nothing added beyond flour, water, and salt. That slow fermentation is what builds sourdough's depth of flavour and chewy texture, and it's also why many people find they digest it better than commercially produced loaves.
