It's Friday afternoon, and I have Bun News.....

🍰That's golden Toblerone brownies there.
🍰Also Lemon Shortbread Lady, if you're reading, I have good news for you. 🍋🍋🍋
🍰The plums are from a farm in Ospringe rather than a Lynsted hedgerow. Last week's ones were a bit sharp. Nice, but sharp. Big question this week...plums and custard, or just plums?
🍰The raspberries are also from Ospringe, and may feature in several bakes.
🍰The temperature isn't going up that high tomorrow so I'm risking rocky road.

Top tip: the week after is the Hop Festival where I absolutely will not be. You need to stock up. I'm actually going away on holiday 👜🏇🐕👜🏇🐕

It's the nicest day for MONTHS! Bright and fresh and sunny - a great day for shopping at Faversham Market . It's a particularly good day for buying Buns which are looking exceptionally Nice today.

Sorry if that's too much own trumpet-blowing, but come down and decide if the marketing department has got it right or not. You won't know until you try! 🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🧁

So sorry, lovely Bunpeople......although today is gloriously cool so far, yesterday absolutely wasn't. Even my north-facing kitchen was too hot for me to put the oven on. I kept waiting for it to cool down and it was around 8 o'clock before it was a workable temperature. Which is a bit late to start work. I guess we've come a long way if I now think of 25 degrees as a cool day, but it's not a journey I'm enjoying.

I'm going to spend the day catching up with the things that didn't get done during the three days of heat last week, and perfecting a storage solution for eggs. The new BunHens are thriving in the heat and producing five or six eggs a day!

Next week looks cooler, so hopefully I'll see you all next Saturday 😘🧁😘🧁😘

Sunday morning in Bun Towers. It's currently cool, and we're in the big area of water outage, so no washing up for me this morning. I'll have to go and exercise the Bunhorses instead. Shame.

A big, big thank you to everyone who came and bought Nice Buns at Faversham Market yesterday. It was so lovely to see you all, and I hope you enjoyed your cakes and scones. It was my dad's birthday yesterday so the Cake Elf and I are going round for tea today. I've been given the job of bringing cake 😊 We selected a box of family favourites and tucked it away. It's the Cake Elf's birthday on Wednesday and I have been given VERY specific instructions about what cake she'd like baked for her.

Your Saturday morning bun shout out....

• a peanut butter and jelly cake - sweet strawberry jam and salty peanuts - a classic combination 🍓🥜🍓🥜
•a coconut lime cake, with coconut lime buttercream on the top 🥥🍋‍🟩🥥🍋‍🟩
•that chocolate hazelnut Nutella cake - if you're going to make something chocolatey, make it VERY chocolatey 🍫🌰🍫🌰
• the regular coconut cake, this week with pineapple jam on top because of the tropical times we are living through 🍍🥥🍍🥥

Plus lots of their cakey friends. Not too much icing or chocolate topping because of the weather 🔥🌶️🌡️🥵 But lots and lots of taste ❤️

What I actually ended up doing last Saturday afternoon when I was MIA was drive to Colchester for the Cake Elf to meet a cat, then have chips on the beach outside my beach hut which is near Colchester, then do a late night IKEA run on the way home.... it's rest, but not as we know it.

For more cat chat and hut chat - photos available on request - come along to Faversham Market tomorrow where you will find Nice Buns. This may be a surprise to you, given the temperature is going to be quite high, but a Cake Lady can be a determined creature once she's had a "rest".

I've bought a bottle of hazelnut syrup, and I'm thinking of a chocolate sponge drenched with the syrup, then topped with nutella buttercream. I'm also planning some parmesan, garlic and black pepper scones. I've also got an iced coconut lime cake twirling round in my brain, and there are blackberries everywhere so it would be rude to ignore them. Basically after a week of "rest" my head is very full of cake ideas which I need to try out. Also the new hens are busily learning to lay eggs and I'm going to run out of space on the worktop soon.

I'm usually very much a glass half full kind of Cake Lady. Show me a whole stack of difficulties and I'm invincible. We've had a busy (and tough) week in Bun Towers, not helped by yet another spell of hot weather, but I was on track to work hard and get everything done. I went out of the house at 7am yesterday to go and do the horses....only to discover that the Bunmobile had a puncture. Sorted now, but one more thing to pack into the day. The camel....that straw.

You can't pour from an empty cup, and mine is drained right out. I'm going to spend today quietly at home putting my buns'n'ponies world to rights. A bit of tidying in the house and the garden and out in the fields. Perhaps picking some blackberries to freeze for the winter. Maybe a walk out with the Bundog.

I'll be back next week, with Bunworld back in its groove. ###

Late post!
Yesterday was crazy even by Cake Lady standards. I had two horse training sessions, at two different times which meant two separate drives to the other side of Canterbury*. Plus the usual horse care at home and the Friday bakeathon. Blink and you'd have missed me!

Anyway, I made it. And there's cake. All I need is you to come and buy it. See you sooooooon 😘😘😘

There are zested lemons, chopped chocolate and blueberries out on the side, there's a bag of blackberries in the fridge that I picked from the horse orchard this morning, some of the eggs I'm using have been laid by the new Bunhens.....there will be Nice Buns at Faversham Market in the morning.

I've also had a riding lesson yesterday morning, then ridden the Bunhorse yesterday evening to celebrate his birthday, I've ridden his younger brother this morning and been to the Leavers' Assembly at the village school, so as always it will be a late finish tonight and an early start tomorrow. It's a busy - and interesting - buns'n'ponies life ❤️🍰🎂🧁❤️
