Sharing this today, as so many young people receive their GCSE results.

You did your best, and that is something to be proud of. Today’s results may open one door, close another or lead you towards a path you hadn’t considered before. Whatever happens, keep going. There is always another route, another opportunity and another chance to build a future you’re excited about.

Please remember that your worth could never be measured by the grades on a results card. They cannot capture your kindness, courage, creativity, determination or all the challenges you’ve overcome to get here. They are one moment in your journey, not the definition of who you are or what you can become.

A little heads-up from Tubby Joe…

We’ll be closed tomorrow as we’ve got some important things happening behind the scenes with both Tubby Spud and Big Bro Bao. 👀

I can’t quite reveal what’s going on just yet… but hopefully I’ll be able to share more very, very soon. 🤫

There’s a lot happening with both brands at the moment, and tomorrow is one of those days where I need to step away from the spuds and focus on the bigger picture.

So, no spuds tomorrow — but potentially some exciting news coming soon. 👀

From today, we’ll no longer accept Blue Light Cards at Tubby Spud or Big Bro Bao. As a small independent business, the scheme’s growth means it’s no longer commercially sustainable for us.

Our updated food discounts are:

🩵 10% off with a valid NHS ID🎖️ 10% off for serving Armed Forces personnel and veterans with a valid Military ID, Veteran Card or Defence Discount Service Card🚑 25% off when you visit in NHS, ambulance, police, fire or military uniform

At Big Bro Bao, we’ll also prioritise these orders in the kitchen where possible—because we know many of you are grabbing food during a short break.

This change isn’t about whose profession matters most. It allows us to keep offering meaningful support without removing discounts altogether.

And everyone can still save! Our Big Bro Bao loyalty app offers points, rewards, freebies and exclusive offers—with the same technology coming to Tubby Spud after the summer season.

🩵🩷 “Why does your chicken taste so… chickeny?” 🩷🩵

It’s genuinely a question we’ve been asked. 😂

We get so many lovely comments about the food at Tubby Spud, and one of the biggest compliments is about the quality of the ingredients.

For me, every good dish starts with great ingredients.

As a chef, I’ve always worked on one simple principle:

Buy the best ingredients you can afford, then don’t mess about with them too much.

Take our chicken. 🐔

We use whole corn-fed chickens. Yes, they cost us considerably more than buying cheap chicken portions or pre-cooked, processed chicken — but you can taste the difference.

A whole chicken being sold for £3.50 has had to be bred, fed, reared, processed, packaged, transported, distributed AND retailed with several businesses taking a margin along the way.

Something, somewhere, has to give.

Cheap chicken can also contain significant added water, which might make the numbers work on a spreadsheet, but it doesn’t make your dinner taste any better.

We’d rather start with a beautiful chicken, cook it properly, strip it ourselves and turn it into something we’re genuinely proud to serve.

And that philosophy runs through Tubby Spud.

🥔 Proper potatoes.
🥩 Proper meat.
🥗 Fresh ingredients.
👨‍🍳 Proper cooking.

We’re not pretending to be fine dining — we sell massive loaded jacket potatoes from a shipping container on the seafront. 😂

But simple food doesn’t have to mean cheap ingredients.

Great ingredients → simple cooking → banging food.

That’s pretty much the Tubby Spud philosophy. 🩵🩷

🩵🩷 A Message from Tubby Joe… 🩷🩵

Hey everyone! 👋

Firstly, I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who’s come down recently and tried our new creations. The Caesar Spud has absolutely gone mental 🤯🥔 and has become the fastest-selling creation we’ve ever launched!

Unfortunately, I need to take today off as I’m unwell. Running Tubby Spud seven days a week has finally caught up with me, so Tubby Spud will be closed today while I recharge.

The good news is I’ll be back tomorrow, ready to get those potatoes back in the oven and sling your favourite spuds once again! 💪🥔

If you’re heading down to Beach Street today, please still come and support all of the amazing independent traders. ❤️ They’re an incredible bunch and they’ll look after you. And yes… if you’re feeling hungry, the team over at Big Bro Bao will happily feed you too! 🥟😅

This has also made me realise that I probably need to find a Summer Spud Slinger to give me the occasional day off!

🚨 TUBBY JOE HAVING AN UNEXPECTED DAY OFF 🚨

Unfortunately, Tubby Spud will be CLOSED today 🥔💔

My car has decided that steering is apparently an optional extra and currently handles somewhere between a tank and a shopping trolley with a dodgy wheel. 🚗💀

As I’d quite like to arrive at Tubby’s in one piece, we’ll be staying closed today while I attempt to convince the car that turning corners is actually quite important.

Sorry to anyone planning on getting their spud fix today! 🥔🩷🩵
