Raven Acre Update #3

We've definitely been slacking with the weekly updates but we've been extremely busy planning the coming growing season and laying out our little smallholding!

Some activities we've recently undertaken at Raven Acre,

We planted the majority of our blueberries almost completing the blueberry patch for this year, with only 15 more bushes to go.🫐

We travelled all the way down to Hampshire Market Garden to pick up a rotary plough we purchased for our two wheeled tractor which will enable us to break new ground and create beds for growing crops. We had a little practice using it but the ground is definitely still to wet!

Tomorrow we'll be planting our Apricot and Peach trees in the orchard, We've also decided to expand the orchard which will take place over the next few weeks, almost taking us up to 100 trees!🍎🍏🍐🍑🍒

Weekly update #2

Not much gone on at Raven Acre this week due to the snow, but Fudge, Pumpkin & Waffle (our dog and pigs) seemed to enjoy it!🐶❄️

We've started laying the w**d suppression membrane for our extended blueberry patch today, aiming to complete this next week with over 100 blueberry plants going in.🫐

We had our road frontage hedges cut back before nesting season begins and to enable us to repair fencing, big thank you to the local farmer for doing it. 🚜 🌳

All the usual birds seen in larger numbers due to the colder weather, with Greenfinch making an appearance during the snowfall.🐦

🎉Happy New Year Everyone!2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣6️⃣🎉

In 2026, We've decided to do a weekly post every Friday featuring any activities we undertake that week to keep everyone upto date on our little smallholding.
In addition to the above, we'll also be using it as wildlife 'blog' capturing and listing different species of wildlife we see on site over the week, including images if taken.

Activities we've undertaken this week,

• We continue to plant fruit trees in our newly established orchard, taking us up to 48 fruit trees planted with peach and apricot trees yet to go in.🍎🍏🍐

• Moved Pumpkin & Waffle, our two Kune Kune pigs, to a new grazing paddock which they are slowly (thankfully) wrecking.🐷🐽

• We've mown an 1/4 acre patch which is to be an extension to our blueberry patch, doubling its size! We now have 15 varieties of blueberries growing on site, to provide a plentiful crop in years to come. 🫐

• We've planted our White Currants (Versailles) almost completing our Currant patch with only Pink Currants left to plant.

• Completed our patch of Gooseberries with the addition of Yellow Gooseberries(Hinnomaki Yellow) which are planted in a traffic light pattern which will be seen once they fruit, hopefully this year. 🟩🟨🟥

• We continue to prepare next years growing beds, with at least 4 varieties of potatoes planned for a long harvest period amongst many other vegetables.

Wildlife🦆🐦‍⬛

Many bird species on site as usual this week, they include;
Goldfinch, House Sparrow, Chaffinch, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Coal Tit, Snipe, Dunnock, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Ring-necked Pheasant, Raven, Carrion Crow, Red Kite, Nuthatch, Robin, Long-tailed Tit, Buzzard, Wren, Jay, Sparrowhawk, Greenfinch, Starling, Meadow Pipit

A massive thank you to everyone who purchased our potatoes over the past few weeks, We've completely sold out for this season unfortunately.
We'll be back next year with hopefully much more on offer from our little roadside stall on Rehoboth Road, Five Roads.

We're planning on offering a selection of home grown fruit & vegetables in addition too chicken and duck eggs.

In the meantime, what would people like to see at the stall? Please leave a comment below or message us.

We have a large variety of soft fruit bushes at Raven Acre, Five Roads, which we planted towards the end of last year and start of this year.
Some, as you can see, have started to fruit already, in particular the blueberries, even some 'Pink Lemonade' Blueberries have made an appearance!🫐
