Something new is coming from The Food Barn.

We’re launching our very first newsletter.

It will be packed with all the good stuff from the barn. Trader stories, seasonal produce, behind-the-scenes bits, interesting facts, community news, things to look out for, and a few fun extras along the way.

It is another way for us to keep everyone connected and share a little more of what makes The Food Barn special.

If you love knowing where your food comes from, discovering local producers, hearing the stories behind the stalls and keeping up with what is happening at the barn, this one is for you.

Coming early? Breakfast sorted. Pick up a Granny’s Granola pot and tuck in while you browse the stalls.

One of the best things about shopping at The Food Barn is discovering something you haven’t tried before. You can chat to the people who grow it, bake it, make it and produce it, find out exactly what goes into your food and go home with something a little different.

Brunch plans? Lunch date? Catch-up overdue?

The Food Barn is made for it.

Bring your friends, gather the girls, round up the boys, bring the children, or meet someone you have not seen for far too long.

Grab something delicious, find a seat at one of our big shared tables and settle in for a proper catch-up.

That is one of the things we love most about The Food Barn. People come to eat, chat, meet friends, make new ones and spend time together.

You might arrive as a group. You might end up chatting to the people sitting next to you. That is all part of the Food Barn community.

So next Saturday, make it brunch. Make it lunch. Make it a catch-up.

And as it gets cooler, we have blankets to keep you warm while you enjoy the fresh air!

WHAT COULD YOU BRING TO THE FOOD BARN?

Saturdays at the Food Barn are all about great food, brilliant producers and a strong local community. We’re looking for a few new traders to add something fresh to the mix.

Maybe you grow it. Make it. Bake it. Brew it. Cook it. Create it.

What matters to us is how you do it.

We’re part of the Better Food Traders network, so we’re especially interested in businesses that care about local sourcing, seasonality, sustainability, fair trading and reducing waste.

We’re not necessarily looking for more of the same either. We want traders who complement the brilliant businesses already here and bring something new to Saturdays.

And there’s no need to commit every week. You can join us weekly, fortnightly, monthly or on a pattern that works for everyone.

Autumn has entered The Food Barn.

The jumpers are coming out, the mornings are getting cooler, and the market tables are starting to look very different.

Think squash, apples, roots, greens, fresh bread, good cheese and the sort of food you genuinely look forward to cooking when the evenings draw in.

Add a hot coffee, something tasty for brunch and a wander around your favourite local traders, and Saturday mornings are looking pretty good from here.

September, you’ve been lovely. October, we’re ready for you.

COULD YOU BE A FOOD BARN TRADER?

We’re looking for brilliant new Saturday traders to join the Food Barn family.

But what makes a Food Barn trader?

For us, it’s about much more than having a great product. We’re proud to be part of the Better Food Traders network, and we’re looking for traders who share the same values around good food, good business and doing things properly.

We’d love to hear from people who:

• Care about the environment, their ingredients, and where their produce comes from
• Choose sustainable and responsibly produced ingredients
• Are local growers, producers or farmers practising nature-friendly farming
• Embrace seasonal food and shorter supply chains
• Believe in fair prices and fair treatment for everyone involved
• Think about people and planet alongside profit
• Want to be part of a strong, supportive local community

And, of course, you need to bring something rather lovely to the table too.

We already have a fantastic community of traders, so we’re looking for businesses who complement what’s here.

And you don’t have to commit to every Saturday.

We’re flexible. You could trade every week, every other week, every third week, once a month, or find a rhythm that works for you and for us.

Why shop at The Food Barn instead of the supermarket?

Because here, you know where your food comes from. And you know what is in it.

You can meet the people who grow it, rear it, bake it and make it. You can ask questions, find out how something was produced, what ingredients went into it and where they came from.

There is no mystery. No endless ingredient lists full of names you have never heard of. It is real food, made and grown by real people, and you can talk to them face to face.

You can shop with the seasons, choose locally grown food and support farmers, growers, makers and small independent businesses here in Cornwall.

More of your money stays within the local community too, helping those businesses keep doing what they do best.

And The Food Barn is more than somewhere to shop.

It is conversations over coffee, familiar faces, discovering something new and chatting to the person who made your bread or grew your vegetables.

Then there is the taste.

Remember when a tomato really tasted like a tomato? When strawberries were properly sweet, and vegetables were full of flavour?

Our growers and producers put time, care and pride into what they produce. We grow food with the seasons, make it in smaller batches, and give it the attention it deserves.

You know what you are eating. You know who made it. And you can taste the difference.

There is something special about the first hint of autumn.

The mornings feel a little cooler. The light softens. The colours begin to change. School bags come back out, routines return and the whole season starts to shift.

And so does the food.

Summer salads slowly make way for soups, stews, roasted vegetables, warm bread and those comforting dishes we start craving as soon as the evenings draw in.

At The Food Barn, this is one of the loveliest times of year.

The produce changes with the season. New flavours arrive. Autumn colours start appearing across the stalls, and suddenly we are all thinking about what can go into the soup pot, what can be roasted for Sunday lunch and what will make the perfect cosy supper.

It is a season of change, fresh starts and really good food.

And we're ready for it.

This summer has been glorious for picnics, beach days and long evenings outside.

For our farmers and growers, though, the long dry spell has made an already demanding season even tougher. So a big thank you to everyone who continues to shop local and support the people producing food here in Cornwall.

Right now, our community can help Chyan in a lovely way.

They make the apple juice you’ll find at The Food Barn, and they’re looking for local apples to press into their next batches.

If you’ve got an apple tree producing more than you can use, don’t let them go to waste. Chyan can come pick them and turn them into delicious local apple juice.

It’s a brilliant little circle. Local gardens, local growers, local produce, all helping each other out.

Got spare apples? Give Chyan Community Field a shout.
