Four years ago we founded Vallis Farm with a dream. Several dreams infact. Dreams of place for community, learning, biodiversity and honesty about the challenges we face as people and as a business trying to go about things the right way.

We’re people too. And we’re also parents. Being a parent isn’t easy. It never has been. Being a teen too. But the challenges we face today are different. They feel enormous. We can’t solve them alone. But we can act. In lots of small but significant ways.

That’s why we set up Vallis Farm Education Centre CIC. To give our young people the opportunity to learn about and act on climate change. To improve their skills so they can become resilient and brave. To give them a space to be themselves and not feel shy about it.

There’s lots of projects in the pipeline but one we have launched and are fiercely proud of is our youth club. We have two term time groups. One for 12-14 years and 14-16 years. If you think your teen would benefit then go to our cic page to find out more (link tree or link below). We have various options available so you can absolutely afford it.

Outdoors is for everyone.

IT’S CHRISTMAS! 🎄

The 25th August was an unofficial Christmas at Vallis Farm this week. We had pigs in blankets and everything!

Yeah OK. It’s not Christmas. We’re not completely losing the plot. But you’ve got to plan ahead and we needed some festive photos so we decided to have a full on roast. We posed for a few pics and then stuffed our faces like a real Christmas.

Huge thanks to Ed Schofield | Photographer Ever the friendly professional who had to put up with our gossip and giggles throughout the morning.

We also managed a not so festive shoot of the wild swimmers in the pond so a big thanks to our lovely Friends of Vallis who came along in their costumes for that.

It’s a good idea to get ahead. Our Garden Design 101 course is already fully booked. So get in quick for our other events.

The Gardening for Gut Health day retreat promises to be a fantastic day of learning, eating delicious and nutritious food and finishing the day with a swim and sauna. We have a writing retreat coming up too (almost sold out) and an autumn foraging lunch which is always popular so start planning for a wholesome second half to your year. Before Christmas really comes along and ruins all your best intentions all over again!

Check out our events pages to see what’s what.

Our natural pool has been a massive hit. And no wonder! The water is clean. The surroundings are serene. And the benefits of cold water swimming are…. well…. What?

Tara AKA Wild Swimming Woman is running a fundraising event for our Education Centre CIC to enable you to find out AND to swim in the natural pool. Open to non members so that everyone can have a try (over 16s though only please, got to stay safe!), this is your chance to find out for yourself and to help us raise money for an excellent local cause.

We’re hosting several slots on the evening of Thursday 17th September. You get to feel good and with your ticket price you’ll do good. Sound good?

Big thanks to Tara Kelsall ~ Wild Swimming Woman & Life Coach for donating her time to do this. We can’t wait!

Next Sunday is our exciting collaboration with Lucky 7’s | 7” Vinyl Night . A brilliant community focused organisation which celebrates music and takes out all the ego and nonsense from getting on the decks. The money raised from this day will go towards our education centre, a community interest company aimed at promoting action on climate change whilst providing community and educational opportunities for young people to improve both their mental and physical health, as well as helping them find meaningful employment.

All our pay to play slots are now gone but this it’s free to attend. So come on up, enjoy the farm, have a drink and a dance and celebrate yourself and all the good you’re doing just by contributing. We are running all day. 9am till 9pm.

There’s some important info you need to know before you come however. So read on…

PARKING. We have very very limited parking so please do yourself and the planet a favour and leave the car at home. We are in walking distance from Frome unlike most farms. DM for instructions on how to walk or cycle here if you’re not sure.

DOGS. No dogs please. We are a working farm and so dogs are not allowed. We will send you away if you try to bring your dog.

FOOD. Chik Chak will be serving up delicious lunches plus there’ll be sweet and savoury snacks at the bar.

KIDS. Are welcome. We have a swing, a sandpit and a mud kitchen. But we also have hazards. We are a farm after all. So remember it’s your responsibility to keep them safe.

CASH IS KING! We want to raise as much money as possible and card transactions carry a fee so please bring cash if you can. The bar is also being manned by volunteers who aren’t all set up on the payment systems, so it’ll make life easier for everyone and you’ll get served quicker!

A garden is a personal paradise. As long as you know how to create and maintain it. And it’s not so hard, when you know how.

If you’re wondering what to do with your garden then autumn is a great time to be planning and creating your space for next year. It gives you a chance to imagine and to install your design before winter sets in and have it all ready to go for the following spring.

Our half day workshop will take you through the basics of design. How to make the most of your space, how to measure it accurately, how to plan it and what plants will work best for you. You will learn how to save money and how not to damage your soils and the ecosystems that support life in your garden.

It’s a bargain of a day and a fantastic opportunity to learn and get inspired.

The UK imports 80% of its fruit and 47% of its veg. Why? We all know how difficult it’s been for growers this year. Climate change is effecting our ability to produce food but it’s effecting the countries we import from even more.

Inflation and interest rates are set to rise once again because of conflict in Iran. Our reliance on fossil fuels is costing us far too much money. This isn’t good for any of us.

We need to see real change. Systems change. For our physical and economic health and for the health of our planet. This comes from individual choices. Support local. Reduce your reliance on fossil fuels. But it’s also time for big business and politicians to step up and stop pretending that this isn’t a problem.

Please Andy Burnham be the change you’re promising to be. Be bold. Be different. Show us we’re not on our own here.

Climate justice is social justice.

If you're up at the farm this weekend for a swim, sauna, a sleepover in our Shepherd's Huts or our Friends of Vallis Day keep your eyes peeled for our new haystacks made from grass scythed at our scything class and hazel prunings (for snakes 🐍).

Expertly supported inside with teasles to cope with the wind! Well done team 👏🏼

Our Friends of Vallis cafe is outside again this Saturday until 3pm so after your swim pop by for a farm grown salad, sausage roll, soup or delicious cake and beverage and enjoy browsing our local produce 😋

Oh! And you don't need to be swimming of sauna-ing to enjoy the farm. Members can visit every FOV day, Thursdays and 2 Saturdays a month. Come say hi!

Good morning from the farm. We have had a light sprinkling of rain and the chickens are saying thank you. If anyone knows who to speak to get more rain please let us know 😳
