Term starts again next week! Still spaces left in our youth clubs. 12-14 and 14-16 years. Free, half price and fully paid all available.

We want kids at the farm fire building, pond dipping, tree planting, creating wildlife habitats, checking for snakes (yes, we have snakes) or whatever they want to do that day.

Trillions of bacteria and other microbes live in your gut and make up your individual gut microbiome. These microbes influence many aspects of your health, including your immune system, and they help digest the food you eat.

Join us for our Gardening for your Gut Day Retreat where Alex from Somerset Kimchi and Kraut and Tamsin, Head of Land and Learning at Vallis Farm will take you on a guided walk through the forest garden and woodland, start conversations around healthy soils and the gut biome, and you'll take part in a fermentation workshop where you’ll make your own ferments to take home. You’ll also enjoy a wholesome seasonal lunch made with farm produce. To finish, unwind in our wood-fired sauna and take a dip in our natural pool, you will leave practical information to make positive changes for yourself and your family and homemade ferments to enjoy at home!

What an incredible weekend for nature at the farm!

Spotted by swimmers in the pond were dozens of dragonfly nymph emerging into the sunshine, leaving behind their amazing exoskeletons to fly off, metallic neon flash.

Our moth survey recorded 26 different species including two which are rare. The Bloomer’s Rivulet and the Great Oak Beauty.

And (not the one in the clip) Robyn from found a great crested newt in the natural pool!

Biodiversity underpins everything we do here at the farm and to see nature recovering so quickly makes us immensely proud of our little community. Those who dreamt it, those who put the hours in to make it possible and those of you who support us in whatever way you can.

Nature wins again!

PLANT NURSERY 🪴

The estates team have been super busy putting this initiative together this year.

For those of us who prioritise the environment and love our plants going to a nursery is an absolute minefield.

How do you find a plant that’s grown without peat, or chemicals, hasn’t been transported for miles or grown without additional light, heat or even CO2? The horticultural industry has a lot to answer for, environmentally speaking.

So here it is. Plants grown right here that can be purchased with confidence. You can even speak to the gardeners who grew them to get the best advice.

The nursery is open on Friends of Vallis days. Because we are a working farm we can’t be open every day, all the time. So if you fancy it then do join and become a friend. There’s more than plants too. You get to enjoy the gardens and the rest of the farm, as well as being able to book wild swimming and sauna!
