To prove that hubby doesn't take us out constantly, I tried a new recipe for our tea tonight. Oven baked chicken kebabs with hummus, lettuce, red onion and garlic sauce. Quick and easy to make and tasty too so will definitely make that again. The cucumber salad was made with cucumber from hubby's allotment. Yummy!! 😋

Tom's Cafe at The Fox and Hen

Some days you get up and say to yourself: "Self, I want a Full English fry up" and today was that day.

Tom's Cafe at The Fox and Hen has recently opened Wednesday to Saturday serving breakfast from 9:30am to 2:30pm and they've got something for everyone including vegetarian and gluten free options (see menu in photos below). Meats are from Joseph Morris Butchers.

Today hubby and I both had the Fox and Hen breakfast which is 2 eggs cooked how you want (he had fried and I had mine scrambled), 2 sausages, 2 bacon rashers, 2 hash browns, 2 pieces of toast, mushrooms, beans, and tinned tomatoes. For an extra £1 you can also add black pudding which hubby did.

Breakfast was very filling so, let's be clear, I will not need to cook any tea for us tonight but it was very flavourful as well - a fabulous way to get the day going!

As always, service was very friendly and welcoming. We love this place and now they do brekkie too - even better! 😍

Pei Yang House
Private Dining experience, Banbury

Tonight was the third time we've visited Pei Yang House and once again, the entire evening was perfection!

If you've never been and enjoy authentic Chinese food from the Yunnan province then you really need to go to Pei Yang House. This is a private dining experience and they can serve up to 6 people. Your hosts and chefs, Latika and Pete have converted part of their garage into a private dining room that is beautifully decorated and has both heating and air conditioning so it's comfortable year round.

The food is simply stunning.
The flavours, the spices, everything is a complete step up from your 'normal' UK Chinese restaurant because this is proper home cooking with recipes from Latika's home province!

Tonight's menu was:
Starters:
Honey-Glazed Orleans Chicken Wings | 蜜汁奥尔良烤鸡翅 Allergens: 🌾 🫘

Beautifully caramelised, savoury and lightly sweet — always a favourite at the table.

Crispy Pepper Salt Mushrooms | 椒盐香菇 🌶️ Allergens: 🥚🌾 🫘 🌱 Vegetarian

Golden-fried mushrooms tossed with aromatic pepper salt — crisp on the outside, juicy within. Vegetarian friendly

Mains:
Braised Aubergine with Minced Pork & Garlic Bean Sauce | 肉末蒜蓉豆瓣酱烧茄子 🌶️🌶️ Allergens: 🌾 🫘 may contain 🍷 🌱 Vegetarian option available upon request

Rich, fragrant, and deeply satisfying — even those new to aubergine often reach for more.
Contains soy/beans • Can be made vegetarian upon request.

Classic Sweet and Sour Pork | 咕噜肉 Allergens: 🥚🌾 🫘

Golden crispy pork coated in a glossy sweet and sour sauce with juicy pineapple, peppers, and onions — perfectly tangy, wonderfully crunchy, and irresistibly satisfying with every bite.

Old Lady Potato with Pickled Mustard Greens | 酸菜老奶洋芋 🌶️ Allergens: 🌾🫘 🌱 Vegetarian option available upon request

Soft, rustic mashed potatoes stir-fried with tangy pickled mustard greens .
comforting, richly flavourful, with a bright, appetising finish.
Choice of: minced pork / minced beef / minced chicken
Can be prepared vegetarian upon request

Pudding:
Homemade Lemon and Vanilla Pudding (Western influence, but loved by all who eat it) Allergens: Allergens: 🌾🥛 🥚 🌱 Vegetarian

Not pudding like in the dense sense. Light and refreshing and VERY lemony, a Lemon custard underneath a meringue like topping.
Contains dairy

Yunnan Cold Rice Shrimp Dessert 云南凉虾 🌱 Vegetarian
A surprisingly nice cold rice pudding dish but not like you’ve had before. Rice “Shrimps” in a Rose water and Cane Sugar syrup. Authentic and hand made on the day.

You are also served with a big pot of Chinese Tea.
Chinese Floral Tea, included in price. 🌱 Vegetarian
A light, fragrant infusion served throughout the meal — refreshing and perfectly suited to the dishes.

Not only is this, in our opinion, the best Chinese food we've had, the hospitality you get from Latika and Pete is second to none. You're treated like a valued guest and friend in their home. We can't wait to go again...and again and again!

Yum Yum Vietnamese Kitchen
11 Spencer Street, Leamington Spa, CV31 3NE

Hubby and I both love Vietnamese food, it's why we spent 3 weeks touring through Vietnam and our favourite place to go for Vietnamese food is Yum Yum Vietnamese Kitchen. There are 2 locations, the original location on Smith Street in Warwick and the newer location on Spencer Street in Leamington Spa.

It's been far too long since we've been here but every time we've eaten at Yum Yum, the food is incredible and it's proper, authentic Vietnamese food - it tastes just like what we ate while in Vietnam.

The decor in both restarants is lovely and adds to the ambience and experience!

Tonight for his starter, hubby had Bánh Xèo Sài Gòn (Sizzling Pancake - Crispy rice pancake filled with chicken, beansprouts, prawns and spring onions. Served with lettuce leaves, fresh herbs and sweet & sour sauce) and his main was Vit Ôm Tiêu (Sizzling Duck - Duck breast cooked in coconut juice, garlic, green-peppercorns and oyster sauce) with Jasmine rice. He'd never tried these outside of Vietnam but said both dishes were very flavourful and the sauce on the duck was quite thick and really yummy.

My starter was Gói Cuôn (Summer rolls with pork - World-famous Vietnamese dish-packed with flavours yet very refreshing and healthy with plenty of herbs, radish, pickles and rice noodles) and my main was Bún Chá Nem Thit Nuóng (Meaty Fan - Char-grilled pork marinated overnight, spring rolls, mixed grilled pork & beef wrapped in betel leaves, served with rice noodles, salad, sweet & sour sauce and fresh Vietnamese herbs). These are 2 of my favourite Vietnamese dishes and Yum Yum makes them perfectly!

Of course, we both ate with chopsticks!

For pudding, hubby had the Panda Leaf Pudding and I had Banana Fritters.

Beverages tonight were Saigon Beer for hubby and I had a Ca Phe Sua Da (Vietnamese Iced Coffee).

If you've never had Vietnamese food, we suggest for your first try you need to go to Yum Yum!

Vietnamese food is rich in flavour and, with all the fresh herbs that are used, it really is lovely food.

Kipsters Homemade Biscuits

So today's Fenny Foodies post is a little different because it's for all our doggie furiends. 🐾

We've been buying Molly Kipsters Homemade Biscuits for many years and they really are her favourite and since we adopted Daphne 6 weeks ago, she too has become a Kipsters girl.

Teresa, the owner and founder of Kipsters started the company in order to make high quality dog treats for their dog, Costa. Costa has sadly earned his wings now but because of him, an incredible business was born. All Kipsters products are made with natural, high quality ingredients, there's no fake flavourings or additives and these are human grade treats. Want to join your doggie with a treat? Go ahead, you can! 😁

Kipsters has a big selection of flavours to choose from and also different sizes of treats for all sizes of dogs. To order your best friend their own Kipsters, head over to their website and place your order. Your doggie will be happy that you did!

PS: tell your dogs that we say hi and if you're ever out and happen to spot us out with Molly and Daphne, please feel free to come over and say hello as they are the most friendly girls who want to be friends with everyone. 🥰

The Antelope

We thought it was high time for a Fenny Foodies Sunday Lunch so booked in to the Antelope in Lighthorne to check out their roast as we really enjoyed a lunch there a few weeks ago.

As you can see from the photos, it's a nice plateful of food.
A good selection of veg that was nicely cooked (special mention for the red cabbage which was really good!).

We opted for an additional bowl of cauliflower cheese which was nice and cheesy. While the Yorkshire pudding and gravy were also great (thicker gravy than you usually get which is how we like it), the roast beef was the clear highlight of the meal. It was really flavourful and not tough at all. We both said it was the tastiest roast beef we've had in a while!

Pudding was Chocolate Hazelnut Sundae for wifey (which you can get with a pouring cup of Bailey's) and I had the Sticky Toffee Pudding with custard.
Next time I really need to try a Sundae as wifey says they're amazing!

Service was fine, friendly and no issues whatsoever.

All in all another successful visit to the Antelope.

We would both go back for a Sunday Roast although next time we want to try their 'Roast Board For 2' which includes both roast beef and half a chicken as well as all the standard trimmings and a few extras. That sounds fabulous!

Today's Fenny Foodies outing took us to Twisted Tree Brewery near Brackley.

We've visited here every month this year so far as the last weekend of the month they have their Open Weekend and the brewery is open Friday and Saturday with food trucks.

It's a great little family independent brewery that's expanding all the time, and we are all about independent!!!

Their beers are excellent.
My favourite is the Bark Side Black IPA. Wifey's is the Midnight Oak Porter and Mangrove Madness hazy Mango pale ale.

It's dog friendly so we always take our 2 doggies for an afternoon out.

Friendly and chatty brewers, great beers, nice location.

Highly recommended for a visit.

Oh and you can order their beers online - https://www.twistedtreebrewery.com/

Tonight's Fenny Foodie outing took us to the village of Thorpe Mandeville and the The Three Conies...

We were recently recommended here by one of our followers, Anthony Peverill, so we thought we'd give it a try.

Well, the visit was a success!

Firstly, the decor. All the areas of the pub, even the gardens, are very eclectic! There's stuff everywhere and it all really adds to an experience. Check out the photos we took! If you do go, take a look around all the rooms.

Now onto the food.
I decided to try one of their Signature Pies as they get good reviews online. Tonight it was Chicken, Ham, and Leek and I had it with mash.
It is very clearly a homemade pie - full of big pieces of chicken and ham and lots of leek, while the pastry was really flaky and tasty. The mash was also nice and tasty and I would definitely recommend the pie and mash!
Bear in mind the pie was on the large side and rammed with filling - I almost struggled to finish it all!

Wifey had Chicken Katsu Udon Noodles. She said it had a nice mix of veg and included a lot of chicken. The katsu curry had a nice warmth to it and was very flavourful.
I kept getting a waft of the curry and it really did smell great!

Onto pudding!
I tried the Panettone Bread and Butter pudding with custard. So yummy - lighter than I was expecting. There were bits of fruit in and the custard had a lovely vanilla flavour.

Wifey had the Trillionaire's Chocolate Tart with Clotted Cream. Her feedback is that it was very rich in flavour. The clotted cream was a really nice addition...and she was shocked it was Vegan and Gluten Free and still that good!

Service was friendly and attentive.

I had a couple of pints of Hook Norton Hooky while wifey had a Pimms, the perfect summer drink!

We both said we will happily go back.

Thank you, Andy!!!

It was SFT (Street Food Tuesday) at the Crown Inn - Harbury this evening.

This week it was yummy Indian Street Food courtesy of The Cart.
We've tried them before and their food is fabulous. Really tasty.

Tonight we both had the Loaded Fries Signature Bowl, which consisted of 24hr Marinated Chicken Tikka smoked off the charcoal, combined with masala fries and garnished with leafy salad, pomegranate, red onions, coriander, topped with tamarind sauce garlic and herb sauce with a lime wedge.

Really good, and the char from the smoker just added to the flavour.

Wifey tried the lamb sheesh kebab Specialty Bowl last time and while she said the flavour was amazing, it was a little too spicy for her so just bear in mind.

Friendly and quick service, and highly recommended!

For drinks I had the usual Sussex Best bitter as I've never seen it anywhere else around here.Wifey had Cruzcampo Sevilla Orange Pilsner which she really enjoys (as much as Damm Lemon!).

Keep an eye on the Crown Inn's socials for their next batch of Street Food Trucks!
