Since its inception in 1993, Great Taste has been the benchmark for speciality food and drink sold in the UK. This accreditation scheme, organised by the Guild of Fine Food, sees 10,000 products vying to win a coveted one-, two- or even three-star award. Every entry is put through a rigourous judging process manned by industry experts. The judging pool is made up of more than 400 experts (includin

g chefs, food buyers, critics and retailers), who attend sessions held over the course of several months. The majority of judging takes place at the Guild of Fine Food’s purpose built HQ in Dorset but this year will also see judging held in Belfast and at the Speciality Food Show in Harrogate as well as specialist test centres for tea and coffee. Once judging has finished in June, all three-star winners are recalled for a final round, which results in a Top 50 being unveiled throughout August. Finally, the Best Regional Specialities and, of course, the Supreme Champion are crowned at an Awards Dinner held in September.

We asked MasterChef UK 2023 quarter finalist and Great Taste judge Owen Diaram to share his Food Favourites… and let’s just say, subtle was never going to be on the menu.

From the dishes that remind him of home, to the ingredients he always reaches for, Owen takes us through the foods, flavours and favourites that have shaped his cooking.

SOUND ON FOR CHEESE EXCITEMENT 📣

Team Wedge attended the annual Affineur of the Year 2026 yesterday, and had great fun watching the big reveals of the affinage, watching the winners be announced and, of course, eating lots and lots of cheese 🧀

Jaegermeister, beetroot, cocoa, olive oil and mead are just some of the additions used when aging the cheeses.

Congratulations to all the winners, especially for their winning cheddar.

Lager, IPA, stout, sour, pale ale, wheat beer, low/no, or something completely different?

Let us know yours in the comments, then take a look through the Great Taste directory to discover award-winning beers from producers around the world.

Croissant or éclair? Pain au chocolat or baklava?

We put food, drink and travel writer, broadcaster, event host and Great Taste judge Andy Clarke through a very buttery round of Food Favourites: Pastry Edition.

There were some easy wins, some tougher calls, and a few choices that may divide the room.

Watch to see which pastry favourites came out on top.
