Some things stand the test of time. ⚓️

Carved into the stonework of our historic Pumphouse is the date 1877 - a reminder of the building’s long connection to Glasgow’s Queen’s Dock and the River Clyde.

Almost 150 years later, the Pumphouse has a new purpose as the home of Clydeside Distillery. And while time may pass slowly, we believe the best things are worth waiting for. 🥃

Just like wh**ky, patience matters. From 1877 to today, this building has stood the test of time - and this week, we’re celebrating another milestone in our own story with the release of our first-ever age statement wh**ky - an 8 Year Old Small Batch.

🏃 Great Scottish Run – Sunday 4th October

The Great Scottish Run is taking place in Glasgow this Sunday, with the 10K and Half Marathon bringing thousands of runners into the city. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

The Clydeside Distillery will be open as usual, and we look forward to welcoming visitors throughout the day.

However, please be aware that there will be road closures, parking restrictions and diversions across parts of Glasgow, with some restrictions in place from early morning. Traffic is also expected to be heavier than usual.

If you’re planning to visit us on Sunday, we recommend allowing extra time for your journey and planning your route in advance. Public transport may also be affected by diversions.

The Glasgow Sightseeing Red Tour will also not be operating that day.

400 tons of iron. Concrete cylinders. And a whole lot of Victorian ingenuity.

This photograph shows the construction of Queen’s Dock in the 1870s — but those enormous concrete rings in the foreground weren’t just building materials.

They formed part of an ingenious foundation system designed to overcome the soft ground beside the Clyde.

The concrete cylinders were assembled and then sunk deep into the ground by excavating from within them. To help force them down, workers placed up to 400 tons of cast iron weights on top.

Once they reached the required depth, the cylinders were filled and the massive quay walls could be built above them.

And this was the beginning of Queen’s Dock — the dock whose Pumphouse would later become the home of Clydeside Distillery.
