🔞 18+ WARNING — CHEF HIRING STORY 😂🍕👨‍🍳

A little update on my search for a pizza & pasta chef at Nonna Rina… 😂🍕🍝

After 8 years, I thought it was finally time for me to step back a little, work 3 days a week and find a good experienced chef to join the team.

I thought I had found one! Good CV, 25 years’ experience, we agreed a good wage and a nice work-life balance so the job wouldn’t be too stressful. Perfect. 👌

Monday, 4pm — first shift.

He arrived without a chef jacket, so no problem — I gave him one of my brand-new jackets to use.

Then I noticed his fingernails were long black just like a black pudding… and, to put it politely… not exactly kitchen-ready. 😅

I simply reminded him that when you get changed and start work in a kitchen, the first thing you do is wash your hands. I also said, “For today, wear gloves, but tomorrow please come in with your nails short and clean.”

Apparently, this was where I crossed the line. 😂

He looked at me and told me I was a “crazy motherfer”* and walked straight out.

The funniest part? I had to run outside after him shouting:

“WAIT… THAT’S MY JACKET! 😂”

He gave it back and told me:

“In 25 years, I’ve never had anyone tell me to cut my nails.”

And that was the end of his career at Nonna Rina — approximately 10 minutes after it started. 😂😂

So now I’m wondering… am I the weird chef for expecting clean hands, short clean nails and basic kitchen hygiene, or has this man really been cooking professionally for 25 years like that? 🤷‍♂️😂

Maybe my dream of working 3 days a week needs to wait a little longer…

One thing is certain: I respect every chef and every kitchen has its own way of working, but at Nonna Rina, hygiene is non-negotiable. Our customers trust us with their food, and I take that seriously.

So the chef search continues… 🍕🍝👨‍🍳

And to whichever Glasgow restaurant or takeaway gets my 25-year veteran next… please check the nails before you lend him your jacket. 😂
