Meet William - the face behind Surf & Turf @ The Aberdeen Fish Shop!

William has been part of the fish shop for 21 years now. His mum and auntie both worked here, and when he was offered a job he thought he might as well give it a go… 21 years later, he’s still here.

He’ll be the first to admit it can be a bit messy and a bit smelly but what he loves getting to meet so many people in a great wee town and really values the sense of community around the shop.

So when it looked like the shop might have to close last year, it was heartbreaking for him. With Paul taking over, William is proud to still be here doing what he loves and is excited to see what the next 21 years bring.

It’s an exciting time for Paul’s and Surf & Turf at The Aberdeen Fish Shop

When Paul heard last year that The Aberdeen Fish Shop could be closing, he hated the thought of another long-standing local shop being lost from the community.

Kilsyth has always meant a lot to Paul. He started out in the butcher’s here at just 13 years old, so keeping a local shop open and giving people another reason to shop locally felt important to him.

When Paul spoke to William he could hear the passion and determination he had for the fish shop and the trade. It felt like the right fit to bring the two businesses together and combining quality meat and fresh seafood under Surf & Turf.

Do you pickle in vinegar?

My mum cooks hers in vinegar and has cold with a salad 🤗 my dad would complain the smell of the house 😂😂

Sad day for William and his team in Surf & Turf@ the Aberdeen fish shop, Danni has been a very important part of the transformation of the fish shop in Kilsyth, she has worked in the fish shop for many many years and has decided that it’s time for a career change.
Danni has been involved in creating stunning fish displays and has worked with flare and enthusiasm
including working very hard at our farmers markets ,sometimes very cold 🥶

I would like to personally thank Danni for joining myself and William for almost a year and for her commitment and support in making our wee shop in Kilsyth a huge success.
I’m sure Danni will be delighted to see you today to say her goodbyes and for you all to wish her luck on her new career change.
