If you are new to quinoa, we don’t think you will be disappointed (pronounced KEEN-wah) it is a small but mighty seed that is often used like a grain. It’s been grown for thousands of years in South America and is prized for its impressive nutrition. High in protein – including all 9 essential amino acids (a rare find in plant foods!) Naturally gluten free, rich in fibre, iron, magnesium, and antioxidants with a light, fluffy texture and a slightly nutty taste it is quick to cook, versatile, and satisfying, perfect in salads, stir-fries, soups, or as a base instead of rice or couscous.
This week we have included new season South African Packham pears in our boxes, these are a perfect dessert pear, Packham’s Triumph pears, originally from Australia, this old variety is a classic pear, when ripe it has a soft, slippery flesh and a clear ‘pear’ flavour.
Both our boxes include a Galia melon which is a hybrid of Cantaloupe and honeydew. It features a netted, cantaloupe-like rind that turns yellow when ripe, with sweet, juicy, pale-green flesh. It is celebrated for its highly aromatic, tropical flavour.
HOT! HOT! HOT!!! With the temperature looking to rise this week, we have a great selection of deli items, perfect for alfresco lunches, picnics or a lighter evening meal. It took lots of tasting to find our perfect houmous, our suppliers based in Lancashire, a family run business since 1900, are suppliers of fine food and cheeses, their houmous is a simple blend of chickpeas, garlic, lemon juice and olive oil. Our customers agree with us that this is definitely the best tasting houmous, great for dipping and layering on sandwiches £3.30 per pot 330g
We also have Gordal olives from Andalucia available this week, with a firm bite and mild refreshing flavour. Gordal means the 'Fat One' in Spanish - it is a table olive with a profuse juiciness, but not bitter - it has an almost citrus-like taste on the palette. £4.50 per pot
Italian artichoke hearts, perfect for salads, picnics, sharing with friends, they are preserved when perfectly ripe in a marinade of oil and vinegar, blended with garlic, spices and salt to enhance their natural, earthy flavour. £3.50 per pot
