🧡 VOLUNTEER NEEDED – SURPLUS FOOD COLLECTOR & SORTER!

The Second Helpings Project CIC is looking for a, reliable volunteer to help us collect and sort surplus food every Tuesday evening from 8:30pm - 10:30pm (latest)

♻️ What you’ll be doing:
🚐 Collecting surplus food
🥦 Sorting food ready to be shared
❤️ Helping prevent good food from going to waste
🤝 Supporting our local community and those who need a helping hand

We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic, dependable and happy to get stuck in. You must hold a valid UK Driving licence.

Every collection helps us rescue good food, reduce waste and make a positive difference to people’s lives. 🧡

A little reminder from The Second Helpings Project.

Last night, we attended mental health training put on by Gamesley Community Group it was incredibly informative and we really appreciated it. We learnt about the importance of having a safety plan or kit for difficult times, and knowing where to go locally for advice and support surrounding mental health and su***de. Which our community has seen more than its fair share of.

Today is also a very solem and confusing day for me and I would never want anyone else to feel the way I do today. Although too many people do.

We know services are under huge pressure, and waiting for help can be exhausting and disheartening. But please, keep reaching out. If one door doesn't open, try another. Talk to friends, family, neighbours or local community groups.

Glossop is full of community, kindness and people who care. Sometimes a conversation, a cuppa or simply having someone listen can make a real difference.

We believe supporting our community is about more than food parcels. It's about connection, compassion and reminding people that they matter.

Please be kind to yourselves and each other. Nobody should have to face their darkest days alone.

Today hes made a very nice (I know, cause I tasted it) Roasted Pepper soup. Exactly what you need for a lovely autumn dinner!

After a short break for the awards and our AGM we are delivering our free packages again this week! Thursday 2pm - 3:30pm

Slots have filled up quickly but we have 2 packages left to be delivered to the Glossop area (Glossop, old Glossop, Hadfield, Padfield, Gamesley, Simmondly, Whitfield & Tintwistle)

Our packages contain varied frozen items, our frozen microwave meals and any fruit, veg and bread we have left.

These are available to anyone for free, please get intouch to find out more.

Okay, so its took me a few days I felt like I was in abit of a fever dream yesterday but i've come slightly back down to earth now.

This weekend we attended the fabulous Glossopdale Community Champions Awards. It was great to meet some of the amazing people in our community. I was absolutely in awe of the amount of caring, selfless people in one room. It was truly humbling.

And to top off the already amazing evening we actually won the Newcomer Group award! Wow! I would never have imagined we would ever have got this far I cant tell everyone how thankful I am for your support. An extra thank you to Alex 'High Peak Comps' Greensmith who presented our award and gave all Finalists a hoodie... this probably made my year 😂

The biggest thankyou to all our volunteers without people like the amazing Ruth Sarah Holt pictured below who comes every week and puts her absolutely all into making sure everything runs smoothly. We wouldnt have survived the first year.

The guess the name of our new Mascot contest has been won! We will be announcing the winner from the Cabin on Wednesday!

Guess what, Glossop? We’ve been baking up something special, and we are bready to share it with you!

Tomorrow at Glossopdale Community Champions we will be officially unveiling our brand-new mascot!
Our new mascot is.... a Croissant! 🥐 (Honestly, we thought it was incredibly fitting for us and its not one that can go off either)

Not only will our flaky new friend be appearing on your feeds in our future social posts, but they’ll also be making a live appearance tomorrow. If you come along to our free bread giveaway, you can meet them in the doughy flesh!
