Our last Dexter calf for 2026, a lovely strong bull calf for Perdy. When we arrived there were front feet out, and by the time we got back to her 15 minutes later (having checked the rest of the cattle) he was already up on his feet. Just how we like them.

A much reduced team at Newport Show last weekend picked up a few prizes in the heat, with Marshbrook Tinkerbell taking Reserve Breed Champion. The best news though is that this week we have passed our latest herd tb test.

It was a slow start to the show season with the Dexters but the team was in full force for Hanbury Countryside Show last Saturday with great results. Marshbrook Tinkerbell at 8 years old and with her 7th calf at foot had the Breed Championship after winning the cow class. Marshbrook Peridot was successful at her first ever show, winning the younger heifer class, with field mate Marshbrook Sapphire in 2nd, yearling bull Marshbrook Oberon 2nd in the bull class and Marshbrook Camellia 3rd in the older heifer class. With 2nd in the pairs and a win in the group of 3 it was an extremely successful (but busy!) day out.

After a stormy night it was a straightforward calving for Perdy this morning. Her first calf, just 40 mins from waterbag appearing to calf up and sucking. Just how we like it.

Although the day was a bit lacking in sunshine, Marshbrook Tinkerbell shone in the ring. She won her class with 6m old calf Tigerlily at foot, then went on to be Breed Champion for the second time this year, and repeating her success from 2022. There were also class wins for Robin (heifer u 30m) and Jasper (bull any age) making for an excellent day out at Moreton Show.
