🚗 🎂 HOW TO TRANSPORT & STORE YOUR CAKE DURING A HEATWAVE 🥵❌

As we are currently experiencing extremely high temperatures, I wanted to let you know how to transport your cake and store it when you get home.

Obviously, heat and cakes do not mix well!

Transport your cake in an air-conditioned car on a flat surface, and always keep out of direct sunlight.

Where possible, cool your car with the air-conditioning before placing your cake inside. If you have a big enough cool box, add ice packs for extra cooling.

Transport the cake box on a level surface (car boot or passenger footwell). If using the passenger footwell, ensure that direct sunlight isn’t on the cake. NEVER hold your cake or place it on a car seat!!

DRIVE CAREFULLY avoiding cornering too fast or braking hard and take extra care over speed bumps.

To prevent melting or collapsing, keep your cake in the coolest room in your house, away from any windows or direct heat!

You can keep a buttercream covered cake in the fridge, but be aware that there may be condensation on the surface as you bring it back to room temperature which could spoil any edible prints. Your cake will need to be taken out of the fridge at least 1-2 hours prior to serving otherwise it may appear hard/dry due to the butter in the cake.

NEVER leave your cake in a hot car, even for a short time! Take the cake straight home or to venue!

Enjoy the sun while it lasts 😎

I tried a new technique and a new flavour this week.

This was a Black Forest cake (chocolate sponge, vanilla buttercream and black cherry jam) and the feedback I received means it will also now be added to my luxury flavours.

The new technique involves attaching strips of rice paper in wavy lines to the sides of a fondant covered cake and then adding edible pearls. I thought the top looked quite plain so I added some edible glitter to make it really sparkle.

For anyone who thinks that running a cake business from home is easy, this is just an idea of what we have to do to comply with Food Safety Regulations.

There are so many home bakers out there who don’t comply - they HAVEN’T registered with their local Council, they HAVEN’T undertaken any Food Hygiene training, they HAVEN’T undertaken any allergen training, they AREN’T insured, they AREN’T completing a food safety management system. Therefore they ARE NOT legally allowed to sell their cakes! All of these measures are in place to PROTECT YOU, the consumer.

So please make sure that, if I’m unavailable for your date, you find someone else who is legally allowed to run a cake business.

Due to the recent announcements by a couple of my baking friends that they have either closed their businesses or taken a temporary break, I have suddenly become inundated with requests for quotes. I’m working through them as quickly as I can and booking in as many as I can, but I’m still only able to take on so much. So please be patient, but get back to me as soon as possible after you receive your quote to ensure you get your required date.

Thanks x

After rigorous testing, I’m pleased to announce that I will be adding a new luxury flavour to my cake menu.
Any guesses what it might be?

With clean, crisp edges, there was nowhere to hide with this beauty. The trailing white silk roses and gypsophila looked stunning as sunlight poured through the windows at Carlton Towers.

I love everything about Nikole and Damon’s stunning wedding cake and their venue.

Please note - I may not be able to reply to messages between 21st and 29th May as I will be taking a well deserved holiday. I will get back to everyone asap.
