Shipyard Gin

Shipyard Gin Shipyard Gin is distilled in Scotland, made with botanicals foraged from the banks of the River Clyde where these proud shipyards once stood.

It’s a unique citrus based, hand-crafted spirit using seasonal gorse, elderflower and a tiny amount of heather.

Busy May coming up and first up...
This Saturday I’ll be behind the counter, not behind the scenes.
We’re heading through to Rarity Bottle Shop at Bonnie & Wild in St James’ Quarter, Edinburgh for a proper Meet the Maker session from 12–5.
If you’ve ever picked up a bottle of Shipyard Gin, wondered what’s actually in it, or just fancy a good chat over a dram, come down. I’ll be pouring, talking through the story, the botanicals, and everything that’s gone into building the brand from the ground up.
No sales pitch, just enjoying one of best gins to come out of Scotland in recent years
If you’re around Edinburgh, swing by and say hello.

There's no such thing as a perfect serve.
Whatever you like is the perfect serve.
Want it with lemonade? Fine. Tonic and lime? Fine. Straight over ice? Also fine.
But since you asked - here's what we recommend as a minimum: premium tonic like Fever-Tree, pink grapefruit wedge. Lets the gin shine.
Our go-to? 50ml Shipyard Original, Fever-Tree elderflower tonic, pink grapefruit, sprig of rosemary. The elderflower plays nicely with the citrus, rosemary adds depth.
It works. But so does whatever you prefer.
What's your favourite serve?

My grandfather John spent his working life as a plater at Scott's Shipbuilding & Engineering in Greenock. Hands that shaped steel. A man who helped build ships that sailed the world from the banks of the Clyde.

Shipyard Gin is our way of making sure that story isn't forgotten.

Saturday 7th March we're bringing a piece of that Clyde heritage down to Liverpool for the Artisan Craft & Spirits Festival at St George's Hall and we'd love for you to come and share a glass and hear the story behind the bottle.

Come find me. I'll be the one talking too much about my grandad. ⚓

44% ABV. The absolute sweet spot. A proper gin.

When we developed the Original recipe, everything had a purpose. We tried to design every single little aspect.
Once we had the recipe nailed, we did blind tastings with family, friends, and industry experts. Same recipe, three strengths: 40%, 43%, 46%.
Time and again, 46% came back smoothest and easiest to drink neat. That's what we were after.
But duty costs forced us to lower the ABV as the price of a bottle would've been unsustainable. We repeated the process and 44% became the perfect sweet spot. Smooth as you like, but actually viable to produce.
Everything about the recipe was deliberate.

The Clyde built ships that reached every corner of the world.

We created Shipyard Gin to honour our river’s industrial past inspired by the thousands of people who worked in the yards including my grandfather who was a plater at Scott’s Shipbuilding in Greenock.
Same place. Same pride in making something worthwhile.

We’re buzzing to be back at Terraza Del Clyde in 2026 running the Shipyard Gin cocktail bar 🍸
This festival means a lot to us. We’ve supported it since day one, and it’s been brilliant watching it grow into what it is today. Being asked back again is something we’re genuinely proud of.
This year we’re going bigger and better. New serves, bigger flavours, and a few surprise appearances along the way 😉
Over to you.
What cocktails do you want to see on the bar this year? Drop your suggestions below.

A Burns Night salute from the Clyde

Fair fa’ your honest, copper gleam,
Proud spirit born o’ coast an’ dream.
Frae Clyde’s cauld breath tae juniper beam,
Ye tak your place,
Aboon the rest that boast an’ scheme,
Wi’ steady grace.

Your glass is raised wi’ knowing nod,
Nae flashy trick nor cloying bod,
Just botanicals, sea an’ sod,
In balance met,
A shipyard craft, nae gaudy god,
But built to last yet.

See there the pour, sae clear, sae bright,
Like dawn upon the firth at night,
The nose comes in, clean, sharp, just right,
Wi’ citrus edge,
An’ pine that minds ye o’ a height,
A coastal hedge.

Then lips engage, an’ oh the cheer,
The spice, the lift, the finish sheer,
It warms the chest, it draws folk near,
It speaks o’ hame,
O’ hard won work an’ engines clear,
An’ earned good name.

Nae syrup sweet nor fad nor pose,
Nae borrowed tale, nae forced repose,
But honest drink that proudly shows
Whaur it belongs,
Among the hands wi’ cuts an’ crows
An’ work worn songs.

So here’s tae you, Shipyard Gin true,
For winter nights an’ summers too,
For Burns, for pals, for auld an’ new,
We raise the glass,
Lang may ye sail the years right through,
Wi’ time an’ class.

An’ Powers that watch this land an’ sea,
If favour’s due then let it be,
That Scotland aye remember we
Dinnae need spin,
Just gie us craft, community,
An’ a guid gin.
