Smali Shetland Sheep

Smali Shetland Sheep Smali is the Old Norse word for "sheep". The Smali Shetland flock was founded in 2007.

we focus on breeding for hardiness and parasite resistance, while maintaining sheep fitting the 1927 breed standard and preserving rare phenotypes. The Smali Flock is well established and is well known for diversity of colours and patterns, including the rarest phenotypes. We breed for dense crimpy fleeces with length that give our sheep protection from the Lake District weather and make spinners smile.

Glorious morning to kick off lambing. Welcome to the world Quilt! He's a bit premature and more than a bit hopeless, but after a bit of assistance, he is doing well. His mother Smali Oddrun is a lovely calm and attentive mother, especially for a first timer. She stood perfectly quiet while I tried and tried to get him to latch on. I had to milk her and get some of her beautiful rich colostrum in so that he had the energy to keep trying and learn his way. They are comfy in the barn for safe keeping while he finds his feet properly.
