We started drilling a few weeks ago and got about 2/3 of the wheat in but it was sat ungerminated in dry soil with no rain forecast.

So, we left it until there had been enough rain to enable us to drill into a moist seed bed meaning the seeds would germinate straight away rather than risk them either rotting, chitting and dying due to lack of moisture or eaten by birds.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by our stall at the Lincolnshire Biodiversity & Regenerative Food Festival yesterday.

The baked goods and flour samples (especially the carrot cake) went down a storm and we loved meeting so many of you!

Yields were unsurprisingly down a lot this year, but quality most definitely up.
A huge thank you to Helen and her fantastic team Alan W Page Seeds for doing an excellent job producing a beautifully clean sample, ready for milling, and sowing, with hardly any losses.

No where near enough rain here this spring which he’s definitely had a big impact on the crops. What little we have had has come at the right time to help fill the grain.

Having cattle here is so important for our farming model. There is a real symbiotic relationship between the cattle, soil, and the grains we eat. Within the 6 year rotation, where we grow a diverse range of milling wheat and other combinable crops, we use grass leys to manage w**d burden, build fertility, and improve soil health. Filled with a diverse range of clovers, grasses, and herbs, they provide a ‘salad bar’ for the cattle to graze in the summer months, and to feast on while they are in the sheds over winter.
