Busy day today moving the poorer-performing ewes out of the A flock and bringing the 2025-born ewes up from the B flock to join the A flock. 🐑

We always put our shearlings to terminal sires in the B flock, which allows us to get an extra year out of our maternal tups. This means we only need to change our maternal tup sires every three years instead of every two.

It’s an extra job, but one that’s well worth the effort to keep the A flock performing at its best. After all, this is where we breed our replacement ewes from, so keeping the quality as high as possible is key to the future of the flock! 💪🐑

🥹💚 We said goodbye to Tess on Saturday! 🇳🇿✈️

Tess is off back to New Zealand to travel for the next 6 months… and we’re not quite sure who’s going to keep us all in line now! 😂

We’ve absolutely loved having Tess on the farm. A real breath of fresh air, always with a smile on her face and never one to shy away from getting stuck in, no matter what was thrown her way!

From butchery and packing to cooking and serving, getting stuck into the farm work, and even making a brief TV appearance over the summer 📺🌟 Tess has certainly made the most of her time at Gelston! Happy to muck in, give anything a go, and take everything in her stride, she’s fitted into the team like she’s always been part of it.

We’re so grateful for all her hard work, help and good humour along the way, and genuinely sad to see her go. 💚

We hope you’ve loved your time at Gelston as much as we’ve loved having you here, Tess! Enjoy every minute of your New Zealand adventures, make some amazing memories, and try not to have too much fun without us! 😉

And if New Zealand doesn’t steal you away for good, there might just be a spot waiting for you back here… 🤞🏻😂

🍽️ On the menu this evening in the Gelston House…

The classic Sunday beef roast! 🥩❤️

Slow-cooked beef brisket, nestled in a little water with onions, garlic, fresh rosemary and thyme. Seasoned simply with salt and pepper, covered with tin foil and left to cook low and slow in the oven at 150°C for 4 hours.

Oh my… it was absolutely delicious! 😍 The beef was beautifully tender, and all those gorgeous juices made the most incredible, rich, beefy gravy. Proper comfort food at its very best! Served with veggies from the garden 💚
