🍓 PYO Strawberry Update – Open Wednesday 17 June 🍓

We will be open on Wednesday 17 June from 9:30am–5:00pm (last entry at 4:30pm).

At the end of the day, we will assess fruit availability and announce any additional picking days.

A few PYO tips and kind requests:

✅ Pick only the really red strawberries – they taste the sweetest! Please leave any green or partially ripe fruit to continue ripening. Remember, once picked, a green strawberry will stay green.

✅ Bring your own punnets if you’d like. We love seeing customers reuse containers. Please just remember to have them weighed at the strawberry kiosk before you start picking.

✅ punnets are available on-site. However, once you take a punnet, it becomes yours to keep and pay for.

❌ Please do not leave unwanted punnets around the field, especially those containing strawberries. Sadly, this happens more often than you might think, and it creates unnecessary waste.

Thank you for helping us look after the fruit and the farm. We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday🍓

💥💥A GREAT QUESTION ASKED💥💥 so I thought we’d share our tips and tricks to get the most from your fruit.

🍓🍓HOW DO YOU KEEP YOUR STRAWBERRIES FRESH 🍓🍓???

Our recommendations…..

To keep strawberries fresh for as long as possible after picking…….

Firstly - when you pick them - keep the stems/hull(leafy green top) ON! 🍓

1. Don’t wash them right away. Moisture encourages mold. It’s Optional to wash them but if you do, only when you are about to eat them.
2. Sort them carefully. Remove any bruised, soft, or moldy berries. One bad strawberry can quickly spoil the others.
3. Cool them quickly. Put them in the refrigerator as soon as possible after picking. Strawberries stay freshest at about 0–4°C
4. There are 2 options for Storage, either in a breathable container. Use a shallow container lined with paper towels. - do stack them deep as they’ll squash the lower ones. Or The Jar Method - lots of people do this. Place whole, unwashed strawberries loosely into a clean glass jar and tightly seal the lid. The jar traps the natural moisture, maintaining a firm texture.

Finally - Once again - Leave the stems (or hulls) on your strawberries it’s the best practice for keeping them fresh, as cutting or pulling them off exposes the flesh to air and moisture, accelerating decay. Only remove the stems and leaves when you are ready to wash and eat the fruit.

Finally enjoy 😋

Do you have any tips or housewife secrets for storing your fruit??
