Boxted Hall is a venue guests talk about long after the wedding day, the grounds are beautiful, the house itself is full of period features, and the whole venue has a really relaxed feel to it, which works so well for couples who want the day to feel elegant without being too formal!

From a catering point of view, it’s also a brilliant space to work in. Drinks and canapés outside overlooking the gardens, wedding breakfasts inside the hall and evening food later on all flow really naturally throughout the day.

Bowl food has become one of the most popular options for parties and celebrations lately because it gives guests a bit more freedom during the event.

Guests still get a proper meal, but the whole event feels much more relaxed. People can move around, chat, grab a drink and try different dishes without the formality of a sit-down dinner.

Our bowl food menus include things like braised beef chilli with guacamole, Moroccan lamb tagine, Thai red chicken curry and roasted salmon with quinoa salad, all served in smaller portions that are ideal for social events. It works especially well for birthdays, engagement parties, networking events and more informal celebrations.

We’ve catered at some beautiful venues over the years, but there’s something very special about Captains Wood Barn ...

Set in the middle of private woodland in Maldon, it feels completely tucked away from everything else, and the outdoor ceremony area, wildflower meadow and woodland surroundings bring so much atmosphere before you'd even started styling it.

Pinterest has just released its 2026 wedding trends report, and one thing comes through really clearly... couples are far less interested in copying a 'perfect wedding' and much more focused on creating something that actually feels like them.

We're seeing it within catering too, as there is less pressure for formal sit-down dining, more interactive food stations, sharing menus, late-night comfort food and desserts that become part of the personality of the day rather than just a tradition people feel they should include.

Pinterest also highlighted the rise in sensory wedding details and guest experiences, which is something we love seeing. Good food always gets people talking, and the best weddings usually feel relaxed, personal and genuinely enjoyable to be part of.

The report also mentions tiramisu wedding cakes becoming a huge trend for 2026, and we fully support that decision... 😋 😅

We’re officially getting into BBQ season again, and a little bit of prep makes a huge difference before the first cook of the year.

One thing people always underestimate is how much old grease, leftover ash, and worn grill grates can affect the flavour of the food. Giving everything a proper clean before summer starts is well worth doing, especially if your BBQ has been sitting outside all winter!

We’d also always recommend checking your gas supply before hosting people. Nobody wants to be halfway through cooking burgers for 20 guests when the flame suddenly disappears.

And if you really want your food to cook properly, don’t skip oiling and seasoning the grill grates before using them again. Southern Living recently shared a really useful grilling season checklist, which is well worth a read before your first BBQ of the summer... https://heyor.ca/m1GaSt

We read an article recently from a bride whose wedding was just a week away, sharing the things she wishes someone had told her at the start of planning, and one part really stood out to us...

She talked about how easy it is to get caught up in social media weddings that don’t actually reflect real life, real budgets or what couples genuinely want for their day.

The weddings that people remember most are usually the ones that feel relaxed, personal and full of good food, good company and a great atmosphere.

Sometimes that’s a formal wedding breakfast, sometimes it’s sharing platters in a marquee, sometimes it’s bowl food and cocktails with everyone on the dance floor by 8pm. There definitely isn't just one 'right' way to do it!
