Last week, while passing through Guiting Power, we stopped at the wonderful The Cotswold Guy for lunch and, of course, picked up one of his famous sausage rolls.

While we were there, we noticed that The Old Post Office Studio opposite also had a sausage roll on offer, so naturally we couldn’t resist trying one from there too!

This isn’t a comparison post, quite the opposite. Both sausage rolls were absolutely delicious in their own way, and we’d happily return for either (or both!) on our next visit.

It got us thinking about how often we travel somewhere specifically to visit a place we’ve seen on Instagram, TikTok or in a guide. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that – we do it too! But sometimes it’s worth taking an extra few minutes to look around and see what else is nearby.

The businesses next door, across the road, or tucked just around the corner are often incredible independent gems that deserve a little love too. You might just discover your new favourite spot.

We’re huge fans of The Cotswold Guy and everything he has built, but this is your gentle reminder that when you’re exploring somewhere new, don’t be afraid to step into the lesser-known independents as well. The Cotswolds is full of talented local businesses, and there’s plenty of room to support them all. ❤️

Have you ever discovered a hidden gem simply because it was next door to somewhere you originally went to visit?

Did you know that during term time, Cotswold Holiday Park in South Cerney near Cirencester runs a dip & dine offer where you can use all of their facilities for the price of a main meal from the lunch menu?

It runs Monday–Friday, 12–3pm, and there’s no need to book.

I can’t recommend this enough if you’ve got little ones. The pool areas were great, the lake views are beautiful, and there’s a fab soft play too. We didn’t get chance to use it this time because it was so hot in there, but it looked brilliant.

Such a good little find for keeping kids entertained during a heatwave without spending a fortune. 🌞💦

(You may just want to double-check the current offer details before heading over, as promotions can change.)

Coalhouse - Brew & Que was such a beautiful restaurant and completely our kind of place. The food was right up our alley – smoky, rich flavours done really well. We ordered the short rib, chicken, truffle mac & cheese, slaw and chips, and every dish hit the mark. The standout for us had to be the short rib, which was genuinely some of the best meat we’ve had – perfectly cooked and packed with flavour. We also loved the chicken with the jalapeño sauce; the smoky flavour with that little kick worked so well together. The truffle mac & cheese was absolutely delicious, and the slaw and chips were the perfect additions to round everything out. Definitely one for the Cotswolds food list.
