Still thinking about Saturday? 🎷🎺

There’s a lot more behind every great festival than what happens on stage.

For the , sponsorship plays an important role in making the event possible. It helps keep it accessible, brings brilliant musicians to town and, importantly, ensures artists are properly supported for their work.

As the festival continues to grow, support from local businesses and organisations becomes even more valuable in building something sustainable for the future.

This year, we were proud to play a small part by sponsoring the Jazz Jam. A space that brought musicians together, encouraged emerging talent and celebrated the grassroots jazz community here in Hastings.

Because supporting local culture isn’t just about one event. It’s about helping create the opportunities that allow it to continue.

What were your highlights? Are you already looking forward to next year? 🎶

Who’s on the line-up for ?🎷

Festival co-founder Barnaby Davies walks us through highlights from this year’s programme and the artists he’s most excited to see.

From renowned names in jazz to exciting collaborations and homegrown talent, this year’s line-up brings together an eclectic mix of musicians and styles.

With plenty to discover throughout the day, tomorrow!

Hear Barnaby’s highlights, then experience them for yourself this Saturday!

We caught up with co-founders Simon Hersh and Barnaby Davies to hear why Hastings is such a natural home for jazz, and how the town’s local talent helped create the foundations for the festival.

With its extraordinary community of musicians, creatives, and performers, it’s a town where live music doesn’t just happen. It’s part of the culture.

This year, we’re delighted to be playing our own small part by supporting the Jazz Jam. Celebrating the grassroots talent and creative community that make Hastings what it is.

An update from the road…

Our CEO, Carla McKenzie, and the Bike Tours for the Wounded team are now well and truly underway on their ten-day journey up the Pacific Coast.

The first two days have taken the group from Los Angeles to Morro Bay and on to Monterey, following California’s spectacular Pacific Coast Highway. With plenty of miles, a few inevitable challenges, and some incredible experiences along the way.

More importantly, the veterans and riders are already settling into life on the road, with trust, teamwork, and camaraderie at the heart of the journey. For some of the veterans, this is their first experience on a motorcycle, making the friendships and confidence already developing within the group even more special.

As Carla puts it, “The very essence of Bike Tours is teamwork, camaraderie, trust and fabulous people.”

Plenty more miles lie ahead, and we’ll continue to share updates as their journey unfolds.

❤️ If you can support Bike Tours for the Wounded and help give more veterans the opportunity to take part in experiences like this, every donation makes a difference: https://mya-consulting.s.gy/BT4TW

MYA is proud to sponsor the Hastings Jazz Festival 2026🎷

Creativity is not confined to studios, stages or concert halls. It shapes how we solve problems, challenge assumptions and create better places, services and experiences.

Jazz embodies much of what we value at MYA: expertise without rigidity, individual thinking strengthened by collaboration, and the confidence to improvise when the familiar approach no longer works.

As an international hospitality and facilities consultancy with strong roots in Hastings, we are delighted to support a festival that brings exceptional musicians to the town while celebrating its distinctive creative culture.

We look forward to a day of remarkable music, new ideas and, almost certainly, a few unexpected notes.

Ask someone where katsu curry comes from and the obvious answer is Japan.

They’re right. Sort of.

Its story actually starts in India, travels through Britain, joins the Victorian Navy, sails to Japan, picks up a breaded pork cutlet and eventually makes its way back to Britain wearing a better coat and nicer shoes.

And that journey matters.

Because food is never just food. Behind familiar dishes are stories of trade, migration, reinvention and cultural collision. All of which shape what people eat, how they eat it and what they expect from a menu.

As MYA works increasingly across international markets, understanding those stories helps us understand menus, and the people they’re designed for, more deeply.

That’s the thinking behind our Astonishing Food Tales series.

About a month ago, MYA received a phone call from community of London, based at Husaini Masjid in Northolt.

We were asked if we could support the design and delivery of a temporary kitchen, in a field, built by a team of community volunteers, make it legally compliant and ready to serve in 13 days? A simple brief, then.

Food is about cooking and eating, obviously. But it's also about stories, memories, history and expectations.

Those things matter because they shape how people understand value, experience and mealtimes.

Our Astounding Food Tales series looks at the often wonderfully bizarre origins of foods we now take for granted. Some of the stories are true. Some are disputed, and some might possibly be nonsense wearing a very convincing hat.

But that’s part of the point.

At MYA, we understand that hospitality is not only operational. It’s also experiential. The best foodservice strategies are built around flow, quality, efficiency and compliance, yes, but they should never neglect narrative and meaning.

Innovation isn't always about creating something new. Sometimes it's about looking at a familiar challenge differently.

The origin of puff pastry is a perfect example. Read the full story here: https://www.mya-consulting.co.uk/the-story-behind-puff-pastry/

On Tuesday, members of the MYA team took part in a training session with Ben Timpson, founder of The Briefing Course and Royal Navy Lieutenant Commander (retired).

Ben brings lessons from military briefing into business, helping teams communicate clearly, influence effectively and make better decisions with less noise.

For a scaling business, this is important.

As teams grow, communication can either become sharper or become a fog machine with email permissions. We prefer the first option.

Ben’s session focused on how to influence leaders with clarity and confidence by saying less, prioritising what matters, and removing unnecessary detail that slows down decisions.

That is valuable internally and central to how we work with clients. Complex projects need clear thinking, clear communication and the ability to get to the point without losing the relationship.

Thank you to Ben for an insightful and practical session, and to Paul Hetherington for organising the event.
We’ll be putting the techniques into practice immediately. Hopefully in fewer words.

We were delighted to take part in this year’s Sussex Chamber of Commerce Business Awards.

MYA was shortlisted in two categories: Scale Up Business of the Year and Export Business of the Year, for which we were delighted to be named a finalist among some impressive local businesses.

For a small business from Hastings, this means a great deal.

When we moved to Hastings in 2017, we believed the creativity, independence and entrepreneurial spirit of Hastings and St Leonards would be good for business.

We were right.

Also worthy of mention is that one of the other finalists, Kurt J. Lesker Company, is also a Hastings-based company. That matters. It shows that serious commercial ambition, export thinking and technical excellence are not confined to the usual postcodes.

Since beginning our export journey in 2022, our ambition has been clear: to search the world for the best contracts, win them, and bring that value back to Hastings through skilled work, opportunity and growth.

Today, MYA is working internationally across Saudi Arabia, the USA, Europe and China, alongside some of the world’s leading architects and project teams on major cultural, hospitality, education and destination projects.

We believe towns need both social purpose and economic purpose.

Recognition like this matters because it shows that commercial creativity, design intelligence and international ambition do not have to sit in London. They can grow here, on the south coast, with all the grit, wit and occasional sea fog that entails.

Huge congratulations to all the winners and nominees, especially given the strength of the competition across Sussex.

And sincere thanks to UK Export Finance, the Department for Business and Trade, and Sussex Chamber of Commerce for their support.

We’re proud of this milestone.

But we’re not done.

Watch this space.
