Pimhill Farm

Pimhill Farm Organic since 1949. Our website: www.pimhill.co.uk Pimhill Farm was one of the first organic farms in the country.

The cereals in Pimhill's award-winning range of Oats, Muesli and Flour are all grown the organic, family run farm in Shropshire. In 1949 Sam Mayall and his son Richard decided to adopt organic farming methods, moving away from conventional farming which relied on the use of artificial fertilisers and chemicals. Pimhill Farm was one of a tiny group of farms that are now seen as the pioneers of the

organic movement. In the 1950’s Pimhill Mill started with a small hammer mill and Sam Mayall’s special muesli mix. This was based on the original Bircher Benner recipe,
with its emphasis on the goodness of whole raw foods. So began the collection of genuine, tasty and wholesome food that continues to be produced today.

We need to look after OUR soil!

The small ball in the image equates ALL of the EARTH’s topsoil rolled into a ball and placed against the backdrop of the UK for scale. This is a slide from the inspiring lecture given yesterday by Professor Simon Jeffery, in which he highlighted the fragile state between:
OUR dwindling non-renewable resource of fertile soil &
OUR expanding human dependence on this resource to feed our populations

Professor Simon Jeffery is Professor of Soil Ecology at Harper Adams University and a founder of The Earth Rover program which aims to “empower farmers and land stewards with tools that help them reduce costs and environmental impacts.”

Some estimates suggest we may only have 60 harvests left if soil degradation continues at the current rate. The importance of soil health to advance food security, climate stability and biodiversity has never been more acute.
