It is disgraceful that the government even has the courage to publish this warning. Two decades of supermarket supplier pricing and borderline corrupt agriculture trade deals have led to some staple produce (easily farmed in the UK) being undercut by things like chicken reared in China.

Buy British, pay a few pence more for a better health and avoid supermarkets for fresh produce where possible.

Better for you, better for the economy, better for British farming and more likely to survive if international trade is halted by war, disaster or politics.

Having lost a number of sheep to dog attacks over the years we really welcome this:

The Dogs (Protection of Livestock) law update today
The Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Amendment Act 2025 comes into effect on 18 March 2026, bringing stronger laws to protect farm animals.
● Unlimited fines – The old £1,000 maximum fine has been removed. Courts can now issue unlimited fines if a dog worries livestock.
● Greater police powers – Police can now seize dogs suspected of worrying livestock, collect evidence (including DNA), and enter premises with a warrant during investigations.
● More animals protected – The law now includes camelids such as alpacas and llamas, as well as other livestock.
● “Worrying” livestock doesn’t mean attacking – Your dog doesn’t have to bite an animal to break the law. Chasing, frightening, or stressing livestock is also an offence and can cause injury, miscarriage, or death.
● More locations covered – The law also applies when livestock are being moved along roads or public paths, not just when they’re in fields.

So while collecting some very new smart new scope mounts today from Chris Potter Country Sports it was quite cool to be told several times by passers by “oh the Spartan Precision tri-pod, that’s the best one on the market”. Yes thank you, I know, and yes it is. 100% recommend especially for range days and hard to build firing positions.

We have hay! Thank you so much to the amazing service from Philip Judge. His team travelled from the other end of the country where they had a much better crop. It’s lovely and we will have half to sell locally. We have 250 small bales to sell which can come individually or 21 small bales wrapped into large Hestons. Very exciting times. Now waiting for our first delivery from Spartan Precision to start replacing the support system on the first of our farm rifles. We have been happy with a previous well known brand but the versatility and lightweight options are a no brainer.
