Autumn is here the nights are drawing in and thoughts are wondering about Christmas.
Last night was the October meeting of the W**e Circle and the theme was w**es to have with Christmas dinner.
Members and guests were treated to a wonderful selection of w**es presented by Ray from the Ripponden W**e Co.
We started of course with bubbles and a lovely Gran Reserve Cava.
Then down under to Adelaide Hills for a Chardonnay from The Lane w**ery.
This was followed by a geogous white Rioja from Izadi Selection. After which we moved to the reds. First of all a lovely light Pinot Noir from The Lane in Adelaide hills. A perfect partner to roast turkey or beef. Keeping on the red w**e theme and an alternative to Pinot was a very good Cote du Rhone Village from Darriaud in France.
Of course as the meal draws to its conclusion it's time for a little cheese what better partner than a port. We were lucky to try a RCV Royal Oporto LBV from Douro in Portugal.
The evening concluded with a raffle provided by Karen and Sheila. The vote of thanks was given by Mike Button.A great evening was enjoyed by all

September and the leaves are starting to fall.A sad start to the meeting as we also remember Norma Uttley. A past Chair and President who sadly passed away this month.

This months meeting was an extreamly interesting talk by Michael Astrop on The Origins and Oddities of English Pub Signs. Why they were used,what they mean and how they changed over the years.

This was follwed by a mini w**e tasting on a lively English sparkling w**e from Kent . Presented by Anita Alzamora-Watson.

Last night was our August meeting and held at the Community Centre
Our speaker last night was Nick Joannou from The W**e Glass an independent retailer in Halifax
Nicks presentation was informative and funny and kept all members gripped. He blew the lid off certain supermarket w**es and what we were actually buying.
Nick also treated us to three good w**es to taste. A white w**e called Peach from Stella bosh. A dry w**e with a discreet sweetness and fruit taste.
This was followed by a lovey red called Coco. With certainly chocolate taste derived naturally from the grapes. The third w**e was from Italy and a gorgeous Valpolicella which can be served at room temperature and chilled. A great selection of summer w**es.
We also welcomed two new perspective members Pat and Rosemary. Who have recently moved into the area
The raffle was hosted by Anne and Keith Maude.
Next months meeting we move back to our winter home of Mytholmroyd Cricket Club

July means the start of our new programme for 2026 2027. Fridays meeting was hosted by member Mike Button who gave us a lively and in places humorous presentation of some lovely Italian w**es. Just suited to the summer weather we are experiencing.
The first w**e was a Grillo from Sicily. A w**e with refreshing herbaceous and mineral notes. Ideal with fish and seafood.
This was followed by a lovely Pecorino. This grape makes the must drink w**e of the summer. It's hard to think in the 1980's the grape was thought to be extinct. As well as a good w**e for drinking on its own. It goes well with pasta,chicken,grilled fish,calamari and even spicy Asian dishes
Lastly a Primivito from Pillastro. A deep ruby red ideal for drinking on its own or served with grilled meat on a BBQ. Serve this w**e slightly chilled.
Members were entertained to Italian music whilst being served and at the end the Italian W**e song
All members enjoyed the w**es presented tonight and great interest on where they could be bought shown.

Today the Coiners W**e Circle had a trip to the Yorkshire W**e &Fizz festival. This was held at the Yorshire Heart w**ery and featured every vineyard from Yorkshire.
The day started with a two hour tasting of all the w**es and fizz produced in Yorkshire. Many were a lovely suprise especially the whites and the fizz.
Members certainly enjoyed them selves and a great day was had by all.
The weather was perfect and included some great entertainment. For the more hardy the event carried on till 9.0 with a BBQ and of course drinking more great Yorkshire w**es.

Tonight was the June meeting of the Coiners W**e Circle which means our AGM
The meeting was chaired by our President Edward Marshall. In summary Edward praised tbe committee for their hard work during the year especially the work done for the meals etc and looked forward to an exciting year to come.
Retiring Chair Joyce Newton summed up her enjoyable and varied year and handed the chain of office to our new Chair Sandra Knowls who gave members a little taste of what an exciting programme we have install for the forthcoming year.
The club is open for new memebers and looks forward to hearing from anyone who is interested to join.
As tradition holds the retiring Chair gave a mini w**e tasting. Joyce presented a lovely French red obtained from the CoOp.
The raffle was given by Margaret and Geofrey with many lovely prizes.
In late June we have our trip to the Yorshire W**e Festival in York. Showcasing the best of Yorkshire made w**es
The new programme gets under way in July with a presentation from member Mike Button on some intersting w**es with indigenous grapes to the country in question.

What can we say. May saw us move back to our summer home at the Community Centre and the last presentation before the AGM in June and what a night it was.
Our President Edward Marshall took us on a journey of fun and experience.
Edwards theme was "come fly with me" taking us on a flight around Europe to experience some unusual w**es.
As always with Edward he trys to show members w**es made from local indigenous grapes. Not the mass produced supermarket w**es. All tbe w**es tasted are available in the UK though.
After take off from Manchester Edwards flight took us to Portugal for a light white w**e. Then to Hungary ,Georgia for some lovely light red w**es. Then finally to Crete for a dark red.
The evening introduced some lovely w**es along with the knowledge of what anthocyanins are and how they effect the colour of the w**e.
After landing back at Manchester we just had time to take breath and enjoy the raffle kindly provided by Susan Shackleton.
Next month is the AGM then we will look forward to the 26/27 programme which as always has some fantastic evenings planned
