The hot weather may be at an end, but as we shift into autumn, the cold and wet can bring their own problems for private water supplies – from increased sediment and discolouration to frozen pipes and pressure problems.

Here are a few simple checks you can do now to help prevent bigger problems later:

✔️ Check exposed pipes are properly insulated
✔️ Keep an eye out for changes in water colour, taste or pressure
✔️ Clear leaves and debris away from tanks and surrounding areas
✔️ Stock up on filters
✔️ Arrange any necessary servicing or repairs early

A little preparation now could help keep your water supply running reliably, all winter.

"If I had a leak, I'd see water." Not always.

Leaks in a private water supply often happen underground, so you could be losing thousands of litres of water every year without even knowing it. Meanwhile, your pump is working harder, your water source is under extra strain, and your maintenance bill could be creeping up.

Here are three signs you might have a hidden leak:

💧 Your pump is running more than normal: if it’s constantly switching on and off, it could be replacing water that’s escaping through a hidden leak.

🚿 Your water pressure has dropped: a noticeable drop in pressure can mean water is leaking before it reaches your taps.

🌱 Soggy ground or unusually green grass patches: wet patches or lush areas of grass can be tell-tale signs of an underground leak.

Recognise any of these warning signs? It might be time to investigate.

Our team of engineers uses specialist leak detection equipment and a whole lot of experience to quickly pinpoint the cause without unnecessary digging. Once found, it’s just a case of fixing the leak, and your private water supply will be back working as it should.
