Salt in coffee? It sounds completely wrong, but sailors have been doing it for centuries.

Long before coffee shops and oat milk flat whites, sailors discovered that a tiny pinch of salt could take the edge off bitter, over-extracted coffee. It doesn’t make your coffee salty. Instead, it helps suppress bitterness and brings out the natural sweetness and flavour already hiding in the cup.

It’s a simple bit of food science that’s survived generations at sea, and once you try it, you might never go back.

Salt & Vinegar Martini 🍸 Everything but the fish 🐟 50ml of vodka which is made from potatoes 🥔 30ml of Dry Vermouth, a tiny pinch of our Salt & Vinegary blend, 15ml of pickle brine. Shake this over ice and decant into a frozen martini glass rimmed with Salt & Vinegary and garnished with a pickled onion wrapped in lemon rind 🍋

Dot Toast ❤️‍🔥 That viral Dot Cake had us thinking we needed to get our mixing bowls out but then we remembered that life is busy and toast is always the answer 😮‍💨 Thick farmhouse white bread, toasted, loaded up with jam and Cornish clotted cream (jam first) and dipped into hundreds and thousands with a little pinch of our Cornish Sea Salt Crystals which cuts through the cream and puts this outrageous breakfast on a whole other level! Wash it down with a cuppa ☕️

Roasted grapes deserve far more attention than they currently receive 🍇✨
Especially black grapes roasted with our Salt & Peppery Cornish Sea Salt.
The heat changes them completely. Their natural sugars concentrate, the skins blister and soften, and the flavour becomes dark and jammy. Somewhere between roasted fruit and red wine.
And then our seasoning transforms everything even further.
Salt enhances sweetness, whilst our blend of four peppercorns adds warmth and floral depth that works beautifully with dark fruit. It’s the same reason strawberries and black pepper are such an incredible pairing.

🥚 Boiled eggs with smoked Cornish Sea Salt
🥒 Pickles dipped in our Everything Bagel blend
🫒 Black olives and walnuts tossed with our Rosemary Sea Salt
🍓 Strawberries with Salt & Peppery
And nutritionally, this sort of eating is actually brilliant.
You’ve got protein and choline from the eggs for satiety and brain function, healthy fats and polyphenols from walnuts and olives, fibre and acidity from the pickles, and vitamin C and antioxidants from the strawberries.

This is the kind of low-effort food that still makes you feel cared for.

More people should take themselves on solo dates involving toast and clotted cream 🍓✨
This is thick toasted bread with Cornish clotted cream, and strawberries dipped in our Salt & Peppery blend. And it tastes far more expensive and complicated than it actually is.
There’s a reason strawberries with Salt & Peppery works so beautifully together. They share naturally occurring aromatic compounds, which means pepper doesn’t make strawberries taste spicy, it makes them taste sweeter and more floral.

Eating healthily is great, and balance is important… but sometimes your body is just begging for crispy fried Jersey Royals with a generous pinch of our Cornish Sea Salt Flakes 🥔✨
Not everything has to be optimised all the time. Sometimes the healthiest thing you can do is stand in the kitchen on a warm evening, frying potatoes in butter until the edges go deeply golden and crisp.
Jersey Royals are perfect for this because they’re naturally waxy and almost buttery already. You boil them first, let them steam dry, then fry them enough that the outsides become crunchy whilst the middles stay soft and rich.
And then comes our sea salt.
Cornish Sea Salt Flakes don’t just season potatoes properly, it gives texture. Little bursts of salinity against the crispy edges.
Maybe with cold wine. Maybe eaten straight from the tray. Maybe dipped in mayonnaise whilst pretending you’re only having one…

Your body needs more than just water in hot weather 🥒🍋🧂
When temperatures rise and you start sweating more, you’re not only losing water, you’re losing electrolytes too, particularly sodium. And sodium is essential for helping your body properly absorb and retain hydration.
Which is why endlessly drinking plain water on very hot days can sometimes still leave you feeling tired, sluggish or dehydrated.
This is our simplest homemade electrolyte drink:
Ice cold water, cucumber, lemon and our Cornish Sea Salt Flakes.
Now for the Science;
— Cucumber contains potassium and extra water content
— Lemon adds acidity which makes cold drinks taste sharper and more refreshing
— Sea salt provides sodium, which supports hydration balance and fluid retention
Clean, mineral-rich, bright and refreshing in a way sugary sports drinks could never be. P.S - The tiny pinch of sea salt doesn’t make the drink salty!
