🐣 Laying the Foundations for Strong, Healthy Laying Pullets
When it comes to rearing great laying hens, everything starts in the first few hours of life.
At Piggotts Poultry Breeders, we don’t see vaccination as a box-ticking exercise — we see it as laying the foundations for a pullet that will grow well, stay healthy, and perform consistently throughout her laying life.
That’s why every chick we supply receives a carefully designed day-old vaccination programme, chosen to protect against the most important early-life diseases while supporting long-term health and productivity.
🧬 A strong start, from day one
Our chicks are vaccinated using a combination of injection and spray vaccines, each with a specific role:
✔️ Innovax® ILT IBD (injection)
This advanced vector vaccine provides early, long-lasting protection against Infectious Laryngotracheitis (ILT) and Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) — two diseases that can have serious consequences for pullet development and lifetime performance.
✔️ Rismavac® (injection)
Protects against Marek’s disease, a cornerstone of any responsible pullet vaccination programme.
✔️ IB Ma5 (spray)
A live spray vaccine against Infectious Bronchitis, helping to prime the chick’s respiratory immunity from day one — an important first step in protecting future egg quality and shell strength.
✔️ Paracox®-5 (spray)
Provides early protection against coccidiosis, allowing birds to develop natural immunity while supporting healthy gut development.
🏗️ Why early vaccination matters
The first days of life are critical. Disease challenges at this stage can cause damage that can’t be undone later, even if birds look healthy on the surface.
By vaccinating at day-old, we help to:
Reduce early disease pressure
Protect developing immune and reproductive systems
Support uniform growth
Set birds up for strong, consistent laying performance
In simple terms: you can’t build a great laying hen without strong foundations.
🌱 Vaccination as part of the bigger picture
Vaccination alone doesn’t make a great pullet — but it plays a vital role alongside:
Good chick quality
Careful handling
Correct brooding and nutrition
Strong on-farm management
Our job is to give your birds the best possible start. What happens next is where good rearing really shines.
🥚 Built for the long term
Whether birds are destined for smallholders, free-range systems, or commercial flocks, our vaccination programme is designed with lifetime health and productivity in mind — not just the first few weeks.
Because great layers don’t happen by accident.
They’re built — from day one.
