Growing Local CIC deliver a veg box scheme and a programme of schools, community and family grow, cook, eat workshops from Southside Farm in South Wye, Hereford 💚Growing Local is a community interest company that encourages and educates communities to grow, cook & eat local Herefordshire food

💚 We do this through our schools and community group educational workshops and events and by delivering a veg box scheme

💚 We are based at The Southside Farm in South Wye (between Newton Farm and Grafton Lane), a gorgeous 19 acre three field site on the edge of Hereford. In 2026 our new indoor teaching space and cook studio will be open!

🎬 Well that was a fun volunteer day! We had the BBC with us all day filming part of an episode of Escape to the Country Participants Jules & Ian are looking to move to Herefordshire and keen to take part in community veg growing projects when they move. They spent the day being filmed talking to all of is about our project, volunteering and what we do at Southside Farm. The episode should be out next May 🤩

We’re all hoping the production team have found Jules and Ian their dream home and they get to move to our gorgeous county. More importantly they’d then get to join our volunteer team! 🎉🥰

On Saturday we held the Big Herefordshire Harvest Eat at the Kindle Centre.

A day celebrating not only the harvest but the first showing of the film made by A film featuring young dancers from on location at Southside Farm back in May- a truly beautiful and moving film ❤️. We’ll be sharing it soon for all to see.

On the lunch menu was squash & red pepper soup, tomato & basil soup, slaw, salads, jacket spuds, cheese scones, homemade (child powered) butter, bread from and Herefordshire cheeses from Followed by apple crumble & ice cream for pudding. All veg from our Southside Farm and apples donated by volunteer Jenny.

Thank you to everyone who came along and prepped, cooked, served, washed up and supported on the day - and what a day to remember it was 🥰👏🤩🍎🎬

🥕This Saturday we’re hosting our next Community Open Day, 10-1pm at Southside Farm - ALL WELCOME

🍅 Our open days are a chance to walk around the farm, hear about our projects, meet the team, get involved with light volunteering tasks and cook together a simple lunch with our farm produce

This Saturday the Growing Local team are Kindle Centre for the Big Herefordshire Eat - cooking together an all-Herefordshire menu for lunch.

👩‍🍳Come along from 10am to help - whether you're a keen cook, can get stuck in to the washing up or help serve - everyone's welcome! Lunch around 1pm.

🍅The event is sponsored by Our Place South Wye - come along and watch the premiere of their film by Rural Media starring Melody Dance Company CIC and filmed at our Southside Farm amongst the veggies!

🏥Hereford Medical Group will be on site running free health checks too!

A Growing Local special mention to our junior super-cook Phoebe (and her mum Rebecca and brother Theo). Rebecca Louise McCabe

Phoebe’s been coming along regularly to our holiday workshops and Saturday community days and taking a very keen interest in all our cooking (and gardening!). Her Mum’s kindly shared lots of pics of all the delicious dishes Phoebe’s created at home from pizza to pesto, lots of tomato sauce, pasta bakes, lasagnes and soups! Often using veggies from the farm shop. Hearing and seeing this makes us literally burst with joy 🤩 🥰 Can’t wait to see you again soon Phoebe, and maybe one day you’ll be a chef 👩‍🍳 🥳

Yesterday was the Great Southside Squash Harvest @ the farm with lots of help from our amazing volunteers. We’ve left a few for school groups to harvest too 🎃🎃🎃

We haven’t done a final count but I think they should see us through the winter 😂 Some customers had them in the boxes today but everyone from next week. Plus they’re available for wholesale too - we’re looking forward to seeing them on menus across the city!

This year we’ve grown Blue Ballet, Red Kuri & Butternut Squash plus a few Jack O’Lanterns for our Halloween workshops and school visits.
