AMC Back on Form – Good News for Agricultural Borrowers
Long-standing AMC Agent Jeremy Jehan of Brightwells Farms & Land has welcomed what he describes as a “clear return to form” from the Agricultural Mortgage Corporation (AMC).
Having worked with AMC for more than 20 years across Herefordshire and the surrounding counties, Jeremy has seen the lender at its best — and, candidly, acknowledges that the last couple of years have been more challenging.
“It’s fair to say AMC had fallen off the pace for a period,” Jeremy comments. “There were frustrations around administration, policy response times and pricing competitiveness. As agents, we have to be honest about market conditions, and during that time it meant exploring a wider range of funding routes for clients.”
However, the past six months have marked a significant shift.
“We’ve seen a real improvement — from quicker, more pragmatic underwriting decisions to clearer policy direction and, importantly, far more competitive pricing. Applications are progressing efficiently and there’s a renewed sense of confidence in the system.”
This resurgence is positive news not just for AMC clients, but for the wider agricultural sector. Increased competition in the rural lending market drives sharper margins, more flexible structures and better overall outcomes for borrowers.
While some high street banks remain supportive of agriculture and newer specialist lenders have gained ground in recent years, Jeremy’s message is straightforward:
“There is no single ‘best’ lender — only the best solution for each individual business. Our role is to understand a client’s objectives and expose their proposal to the right funding partners to secure the strongest possible terms.”
As one of the region’s long-term AMC agents, Brightwells continues to act for the corporation and is actively placing new business. With deep product knowledge built over two decades, Jeremy believes the refreshed approach at AMC makes it once again a serious contender for long-term agricultural finance.
“For farmers considering refinancing, restructuring or new borrowing in 2026, it’s well worth revisiting AMC as part of the conversation.”
