Aylestone Park

Aylestone Park Aylestone Park, Herefordshire. Owned by Herefordshire Council. Maintained by Volunteers. Car parks at the park can accommodate up to 100 cars.

Aylestone Park is on the northern boundary of Hereford city and extends to some 47 acres of Public Open Space with 300m of canal running along the northeast edge. The Park has three distinct areas known as the “conservation” area on the upper area of the park, the “recreation” area and orchard on the hillsides and the mostly flat “sports” area. The whole area is maintained, almost exclusively, by Volunteers. These volunteers constructed over 5 km of stoned footpaths on the Park, two view-points and a number of picnic areas during the past 18 years

CANAL POLLUTION ..... Over quite a long period of time we, at APA, have had Park users asking why the water in the canal smells so dreadful and why the water is so milky, with white fibrous strands seeming to grow along the edges. The quick answer is "we don't know". We, along with H&GCT, have contacted the Environment Agency, The County Council, The Inland Waterways Association and Welsh Water, we have had little response and been given the impression that nobody has the will to sort out this problem. Given that this polluted water flows out onto the Lugg Flats and into the Lugg we will continue to ask questions and push for action but the more reports these agencies get the more likelihood that a solution will be found.

Aylestone Park Pirate park - Once the BEST play area in the City. The little Yacht is about to be removed, meaning that we will have lost FOUR pieces of equipment from this wonderful asset, the whole play area is deteriorating fast. APA would love to see some new, exciting play equipment brought in to replace the missing pieces - How could we raise the money? Could YOU help ... ! (please share)
