There is one question we’ve been asked more than any other this year. Have we seen that Jeremy Clarkson grew mushrooms on his farm? We haven’t and we never will, but we can tell you all about it because we’ve been told in detail quite a few times now. He went in with all the gusto, certainty (and finances) of a man of his…intersections. He returned a good crop and then he went again and returned a crop of smelly mould.
Today, Jeremy Clarkson front-and-centered himself at the farmer’s protest in London, where he was welcomed and celebrated. We are not here to criticise those farmers who have valid concerns about the Labour government’s proposed changes to inheritance tax. We don’t yet know enough to comment properly about this, though we are currently learning.nWe understand, though, that there is a genuine threat to family farms.
But we *are* here to openly criticise the far right element of this protest.
Jeremy Clarkson was photographed holding a sign from a group that peddles anti-vax and climate change denial conspiracy theories. Reform MPs have been photographed at the protest and some farmers have been photographed next to Nigel Farage. The founder of No Farmers No Food is a frequent contributer to GB News as well as being a climate chage denier. Our own feeling is that the No Farmers No Food banner feels increasingly like the St. George’s flag can, especially for racialised people in the UK.
We are yet to see any evidence of solidarity beyond this single issue of inheritance tax that has driven the protest. This is another opportunity squandered by this particular wing of the “farmer’s” movement. We have yet to see any Palestinian flags or placards in solidarity with migrant farm workers. We are thinking of those who have remained on the farms today to do the farming.
