Been a while since the last update of farm life here, the weeks just tick by and stop for nobody!

While harvest seems a distant memory and we’ve finally had some very welcomed rain 🌧️ this will help with some much needed grass growth for the livestock and set the arable fields up for autumn planting 🌾🚜

Certainly no records broken on grain yields this year but better than last year, all now harvested and in the barn safely ready for the grain lorries to collect another day. 🚛

Given the prolonged dry weather we also managed to get the straw baled, stacked and sheeted ready for winter bedding for the cows at the farm plus sent multiple loads off to the Welsh farmers which is something the farm has done for many years. 👨‍🌾🚚

Our firewood sales are slowly gathering pace with a little change in the weather, dare I say autumn will soon be here and that time of year called Christmas follows shortly behind 🍁🎅🏼

Aside from the farm activities we’ve had massive support from all of you with the cafe, something that was just an idea a couple of years ago is now reality!

The Green farm team are amazing, after only a few weeks in everyone has pulled together to make it what it is, over the next few weeks we will switch over to our autumn menu with the long awaited Sunday roast dinners 🍽️🥩🍮

Tomorrow marks one year since I started to update the page with this photo in an attempt to update what’s happens on the farm. Although I would have liked to have been more frequent with this sometimes the demand of workload hasn’t made this easy. 📆👨‍🌾

I had a vision in November 2024 to change the way we operated here at Green farm, from offering pre packed meats from our meat hut at weekend’s I wanted to go that extra step and offer something different, something more flexible to the people who take time to visit us to purchase what us farmer’s work endlessly for week after week. 🥩🥓

Then the vision escalated to a more flexible shop to a cafe/kitchen that serves up decent hearty plates, this has only been made possible by every team member here albeit on the farm itself or though out the shop, kitchen, cafe or behind the scenes. 🙌

Leaving the final piece of the puzzle down to you guys, everyone who visits the farm & putting Green farm on the map! 🌏

The last six weeks has been intense, stressful but also very rewarding from cafe opening to showing our pedigree cattle across the country folding in a very early harvest for good measure. 🐄🌾👨‍🌾

As we now start preparations for our autumn menu, the good ole farmhouse plates of wholesome filling food for the winter days ahead from stew and dumplings with a crusty roll to bacon clangers followed up by some bread pudding or treacle tarts. 🍽️🍮

A big thank you to everyone who has made this vision become reality so early on. 🙌👏

Head Chef Wanted!
Green Farm is a 4th generation family farm in Hethe, Oxfordshire where we raise grass-fed beef, pork and lamb to a high quality. We opened our ‘Farmhouse Kitchen’ Café this Spring, attached to our Farm Shop and we are looking for a hands-on Head Chef to run the kitchen and take the lead on cooking and bringing our products to life in their dishes.

You’ll be responsible for ordering ingredients, managing the kitchen, managing the kitchen staff, cooking fresh daily dishes, and keeping everything organised. You’ll also have the opportunity to develop new dishes and specials that showcase our grass-fed meat and the best local produce that we stock. Starting with our current offering of sandwiches, paninis, hearty breakfasts and lunches, we would like to grow to offering Sunday roasts and seasonal food in the autumn!

Current Café Opening Hours: Thursday - Monday, 9am - 4pm (weekend work.)

We’re looking for someone who:
- Has great experience in running a kitchen.
- Can manage stock, prep, and cook independently, maintaining and pushing profit.
- Is creative and excited to develop dishes highlighting local, high-quality ingredients.
- Is pro-active and wanting to be part of an exciting new venture and thrives working within a close team.
- Is a positive and professional person with a can-do attitude who likes to have fun doing what they love.
- Experience of making hot and cold meat pies would be a benefit!!

🌞 Summer Holidays at the Farmhouse Café

Looking for an easy breakfast or lunch spot as the summer holidays begin? Come and enjoy a relaxed bite at our newly opened Farmhouse Kitchen Café next to our Farm Shop. The kids’ menu is simple but delicious, and the cakes are nothing short of amazing. We also do a smashing Farmer’s Breakfast and some delicious seasonal lunch options for all the family!

Opening Hours:
Thursday to Monday: 9am-4pm, food served 9am-2pm
Sunday: 10am–1pm, breakfast menu served 10am-12.30pm

And if you miss the kitchen, don’t worry — cakes and drinks are available until 4pm on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday.

Also enjoy Beer, Wine and Soft Drinks in our outdoor seating area overlooking the farm.

☀️🌾Another early grain harvest☀️🌾
Many farms have nearly completed their harvest and it’s still July!
With another run of hot dry weather over the last few months has resulted in crops dying off rather than ripening. Although grains yields seem to have improved a little from the 2025 harvest prices of grain sales still aren’t meeting production costs! 🤷‍♂️

We are now feeding hay bales back out to livestock in the fields again due to the lack of grass growth. There certainly is a change in climate happening, we seem to be experiencing prolonged wet or dry spells of weather rather than a moderate mix.

One challenge we never like to face in these dry conditions is the risk of fire being extremely higher than normal 😞 many accidental field and operational machinery fires have occurred across the country but also some by stupidity, ci******es thrown from a moving vehicle have massive repercussions. Perhaps think twice before you burn your garden rubbish 😬

Hay making is complete for now, but we are still waiting for our winter wheat moisture to drop below the 14.5% so that we can harvest it without the need to dry the grain for winter storage.

We have also had the cafe open for a few weeks now offering our light summer menu. Some of you will have noticed the many photos that are on the walls of the cafe. These are all photos of the different generations of the Allen family whom have farmed for nearly 125 years at Green Farm and have turned it into what we see it as today.

Utah and Visa our show cattle are currently in Builth Wells at the Royal Welsh Show 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Saturday saw a 3.30am start to travel them down before the heat set in. Judging commences on Monday 🤞🐄

OPENING TOMORROW! ☕️ 🍰 🥪 🍷 🍺 Our Farmhouse Kitchen Cafe is finally here and ready for you to enjoy our Green Farm dishes!

As many of you know, we have been busy and we are finally ready to invite you in!

We will be serving up amazing Farmhouse breakfasts and delicious lunches Thursday - Monday. We also have ice cold beers and chilled wines ready for you to celebrate the weekend with us! (And we have air con!)

We will be open on Thursday & Friday for coffee and cake only and then our menu from Saturday!🙌
