The weeks are flying by with lots of things happening 😬

Cows and calves are out in the grass fields enjoying the sunshine, only 2 cows left to calve then it’s over until next time. 🐄🐮
Spiderman the bull was also turned out with his ladies but unfortunately has a slight injury in his hip (from working so hard!) so he’s back in for a rest to recover for a few days before returning.

The ewes were grateful to be sheared last week✂️ just the right timing with this early heatwave 🥵 the fleeces are pretty much worthless but an essential job that needs doing annually.

We’ve attended a fire safety and marshalling course this week 🚒🧯every day is a school day as they say but it was an interesting day out.

I’ve also completed and passed my personal license holder courses and exam 📝💻

Lots of jobs going on in and around the shop, we’ve extended the car parking area to allow for more outside seating in the existing area. Toilets have arrived and are in the process of being installed. 🚽🚻
Indoor seating area is all but finished apart from some final decoration. 📸
The kitchen is fully wired and most appliances are in, just a couple of prep tables and tacking then we’re literally ready…….. 🧑‍🍳👨‍🍳

The Farmhouse kitchen will be opening later in June 🥳🍾🎊

Been a few weeks since updating what’s happening on the farm, needless to say it’s been rather hectic, some sleepless nights, head scratching but most of all an enjoyable time and we got through it 🙌

Only a handful of cows left to calve with most of the new borns now enjoying outdoor life with their mums and all the ewes have lambed and returned to the fields with their lambs too. 🐑🐄🧑‍🌾

Spring is always busy and demanding, crops begin to grow through their stages at a faster rate 🌾🌾
Everything comes to life after a dormant winter. The hedgerows bud up, the smell of fresh grass growth. Hedgehogs come alive after hibernation 🦔
Birds start preparing for nesting season, we often see them plucking the hair from the cows winter coats for nest building. 🐦‍⬛🪺

Aside from the day to day work the farm has undertook many assessments/audits/tests in the last few weeks,

🚜 Red tractor - growing arable crops.

🚜 Red tractor - beef & lamb husbandry.

🐄 Whole herd Tuberculosis test - all bovines on farm over 42 days old.

📒 Environmental Health Officer - shop inspection for hygiene, temperature & record keeping.

🪵 Woodsure accreditation - sale of firewood, it’s a legal requirement to anyone selling firewood to do this. Sustainable harvesting, moisture checking and much more.

🚒 Annual fire risk assessment and installation of relevant on site equipment - for the safety of all visitors including staff.

All of the above have been successfully assessed & passed! A real credit to the team here. 👏🥇

As we head towards the cattle show season Catherine from Macgregor photography visited to take some photos of Utah who will be taking a trip to the Three Counties show in June and the Royal Welsh show in July.

Our opening times will now switch back to summer hours from next week:

📆Thursday 9am - 4pm⏱️
📆Friday 9am - 4pm⏱️
📆Saturday 9am - 4pm⏱️
📆Sunday 10am - 1pm⏱️
📆Monday 9am - 4pm⏱️
🔴Tuesday/Wednesday - Closed🔴

Last but by all means not least, we have a chef joining the Green farm team!! 👏🥳

We are just a few weeks away from opening the Farmhouse kitchen this June!
A traditional menu using farm reared produce coupled with reputable suppliers.
More updates to follow shortly…
We are all very excited 😬🤗

Thought there might be a quiet few days but one job seems to roll into the next 🙌

Moved the ewes back to the buildings this week ready for lambing at Easter but they aren’t hanging about! First arrivals came this evening, all healthy and going on well for a week early.

The cows have decided it’s a good time to start as well, 7 arrivals so far and of course a bouncing boy sired by Dennis himself who turns 15 years old this June and still doing his job! 🤗

Most certainly my favourite time of the year calving my cows albeit tiresome and busy but I’ll try and keep you up to date as much as possible. Plenty of photos to come! 📸

The shop will be open as normal for the Easter weekend including Sunday. 🐣💐

A productive and enjoyable week. Plenty of spring sunshine too ☀️☀️ well let’s not get too used to it just yet more 💨 & 🌧️ incoming!

Ticking off the jobs this week mainly taken up with field work, from a mud bath to a dust bowl in no time at all.

The spring barley has been planted and rolled in (fingers crossed it reaches a grade for wobble pop at harvest time 🍻🍾!)
Early starts and late finishes but like any other farm you get the job done while you can. Whilst life often passes at a fast rate sometimes you manage to appreciate your surroundings, the countryside is a wonderful place to be a part of! 🌾👨‍🌾

In between the jobs this week we had the privilege of meeting so many people who are wanting to join our team here at Green farm and head up our new farmhouse kitchen, offering a real farm to fork menu. 🥩🍽️

Exciting times ahead, we cannot wait to hear the clashing of crockery! 😬🥳

Another 2 weeks rolled into 1, I’ll get my act together soon! 🫣🫣

Everything is starting to spring into action…literally 🌷🌼
Although a tad cold out at times, this is the norm while the daffodils flower. Similar to the blackthorn in the hedgerows.

Now we’ve had a break from the rain I’ve managed to get out on the fields spreading poultry manure ready for planting the spring barley seed. Poultry manure has a real benefit to the soil with good nutrient value.

We’ve also had Sam out from the vets to MOT the pedigree bulls ready for the forthcoming season, all passed a clean bill of health and nose rings were applied.

Managed to catch a photo of Unwin my 2nd bull born on the farm striking a pose! 📸📸
Now 26 months old and slightly bigger than his 1 day old photo 😬

Wilbur one of the new calves gets very inquisitive and confident, although mum is too far away!

With both calving and lambing due to start very soon fingers crossed the weather holds this coming week to get the wobble pop seed planted 🌱🌱
