It’s been such a privilege to be asked to collaborate with Sam and Red on this fun project, just so great for two neighbours to get together. What a wonderful way to celebrate such a milestone. Congratulations on 10 years, amazing, and thank you so much for asking us to be part of this. Best wishes Alice ☺️

Notes From The Pantry Friday.

🌼 I don’t think we’ve ever seen quite so much blossom in the village. It really is a beautiful time of year, Simonburn feels properly in Spring.

If you’ve never visited before, now is a perfect time. The Tea Room is open, and the village is looking at its very best.

See Simonburn Tea Rooms 🙂

🍂A little mention this week of beetroot, one of our quiet heroes. It finds its way into much of our pickled range and chutneys, and if we were to name a truly Northumbrian ingredient, this might just be it. With multiple crops across the year, it’s a constant in our kitchen.

🍓As we edge towards summer, Strawberry Jam is very much on the rise again. If you haven’t yet tried our Strawberry Jam with Tellicherry Black Pepper, it’s well worth discovering, sweet, with just a gentle warmth at the finish.

🚐Out and About
David had a great visit to Hexham Farmers’ Market at the weekend. There’s always a brilliant atmosphere, a real sense of place, with so many excellent producers, all from within 50 miles of Hexham.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend - Alice x

Notes From The Pantry Friday

🥀It really feels like spring has arrived in Simonburn. The swallows are back, and we’re keeping an eye out for the swifts, which should follow very soon. Here’s our little weekly update from The Pantry.

🌞The weather this week, still hovering on the frosty side, with a stunning misty morning today. We’ll be glad when the frost alerts are behind us, especially with all the fruit trees in full blossom.

🌿It’s always fascinating to see how the seasons shape what people are buying. As we edge towards May and sunnier days, BBQ favourites begin to pick up. This week though, our Pickled Beetroot has been firmly in vogue. With 2 Great Taste stars, it’s the perfect pairing for a fresh spring salad.

🥾We’re also seeing many more walkers and cyclists passing through the village, visiting the Simonburn Tearooms and our beautiful 13th-century church. The tearooms are open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am–3pm — well worth a visit.

🐈And finally, our cats Peggy and Silva (pictured) are making the most of the sunshine. Any visitors to the Pantry are usually greeted by our two resident furries.

Notes from the Pantry

🌼A little update from Simonburn, where spring is in full swing and the fruit blossom is beginning to emerge.

❄️It’s been a little chilly over the past few days, with even a touch of frost. We’re hoping the blossom hasn’t been affected too much. After such a wonderful harvest last year, we’ve got everything crossed for the season ahead.

🐣We enjoyed a lovely busy Easter, so April brings a welcome moment to catch up. The small-batch pans have been steaming away once again.

🌿It’s been asparagus galore in the gardens. We were recently asked what pairs best and for us, fresh mint jelly with steamed asparagus is simply divine.

🌱The kitchen has been receiving plenty of rhubarb, with a big thank you to my sister Jane, as ever, for her generosity. Our Rhubarb & Strawberry Jam remains a real local favourite, and my personal favourite too.

We’ll look to share these notes each week. As always, we’d love to hear your favourite Pantry pairings - we’d be delighted if you could send them in for us to share.

Best wishes from us all,
Alice x

Handmade Mint Jelly
Our fresh and light Mint Jelly is truly a labour of love. A favourite for family Sunday roasts, especially around Easter, it takes two days to make using traditional jelly bags and apples.
Handmade in small batches, it delivers a delicate balance of sweetness and freshness. We love a spoonful stirred through garden peas or new potatoes, or for something a little different, paired with creamy goat’s cheese and crackers.

From field to fork, our Rhubarb & Strawberry Jam captures the very first taste of spring.
In the kitchen, pans have been gently bubbling in readiness for Easter and those warm, buttered hot cross buns!
It's always a firm favourite in our family throughout the Spring, we also like it with some yoghurt for breakfast.

Welcoming The Spring Equinox
Spring has arrived quietly here in the North Tyne Valley, the first blossom just beginning to show and the chiff chaffs back again this week.

It’s always one of the loveliest moments of the year, when everything starts to open out and you feel the season shifting properly.

With Easter not far away, we’re back making some of our spring favourites, Rhubarb and Strawberry Jam, and our Mint Jelly for the first time this year.

Wishing you all a wonderful Spring

Best Wishes Alice x

We just love cheese at Christmas. And with so many of our chutneys, relishes, pickles and jellies to choose from, there’s always something that pairs perfectly. Here’s to festive boards, flavourful moments, and sharing good food with the people we love.
